Does it have to be used rear facing? I'm having a killer time getting it to lock in my car.

Do you mean the lock-off? (Clamp that closes down over the seat belt?)
Whether or not you have to use it depends on what type of seat belt you have. What's your vehicle make/model/year?
Or do you mean the LATCH anchors (that's the hooks that attach to anchors in the vehicle seat crack/bight)?
Whether or not you have to use LATCH again depends on your vehicle - you don't have to use them, but if you don't, you have to install the seat with the seat belt instead.
If you can give some more details we'll try to help you sort it out! :)

Yes sorry.. I mean the lock-off. The way the belt is in my car is making it impossible to lock in the center position.
I have a 06 Honda Pilot.

Since your seat belt locks, no, you don't have to use the lock-offs. Read your vehicle manual so you're sure you know how to lock the seat belt (it's probably the kind you pull all the way out, but check and make sure), and also read the Marathon manual about how to route the seat belt when you're not using the lock-offs.
