View Full Version : totally hypothetical, in Canada

I'm not even pregnant with our 3rd, but I'm excited about the new carseats coming to Canada and am trying to figure out what I *would* do.

My girls are 21 months (RF, Radian) and 4 1/2 (FF Radian). The baby is about 27 pounds in a radian that rf to 30 pounds and ff to 48. The older one is about 36 pounds, 40 inches in a radian that ff to 65 pounds.

One of the main reasons we got the radians is for travel - we fly several times a year. I like the low profile and that they fold so I can put them both on a luggage cart for hauling around.

So - if/ when we have another baby, we'll need a 3rd carseat. Width may be an issue, but I'd be inclined to switch vehicles to accomodate my car seat choice, so don't make that a huge priority. I drive a 2004 GMC Canyon crew cab truck. I've had 3 across (2 infant seats outboard, a cosco something ff in the middle).

We currently have an evenflo infant seat from 2003 so best case scenario it would expire a couple of months after a potential baby was born.

I'd love to just get a 3rd radian, but we fly. And my understanding is that the radians are no possible to use rearfacing on a plane (please correct me if I'm wrong!).

So, do we;

1) get a 30 pound infant seat and leave the older girls in their current seats.

2) move the radians down and get the older girl a new seat (Frontier? Nautilus?) ? She's going to be harnessed awhile yet - she's just a smidge below the 2nd highest straps on the radian. This would mean also getting something (??) for the baby, for travel.

3) something else?

I do realize that by the time this is a real problem there will likely be other seats available. But please, consider it as of today/ the next few months.

Thank you for indulging me!

I'd get a SS1 or a Keyfit 30 (yes, it's coming soon too :)). Neither should be outgrown much before a year (the SS1 much longer), but once that happens, #1 will be into a good booster and one of the Radian's can be passed to the baby.

Both infant seats are awesome for travelling and with 3 kids to run around after (and school pick-up/drop-off), an infant seat could really come in handy. :)

I would keep the older kids in their current seats and get a SS1 for the baby. I have a SS1 and my DS is almost 10 months and he has loads of room left. I love the SS1 and very happy I got one.:)

Yes, that does seem to be the most logical answer... but then I don't get to buy a new seat for ages! (the infant seat doesn't count - I've owned an infant seat before)

:):)

Thanks though, for confirming that it would be the right answer.

Not like these two... built-in lock-offs, super nice cushy inserts that actually work for babies, longevity (most babies outgrew the 26" models by 5 - 6 months), nice colours... you'll get your fix. ;)

I've never flown with an infant seat. Do they all fit well in the seats?

Pretty much. I don't bother using the base, just install the seat with out the base and I have never had an issue. :)

Just jumping in here to say how exciting it is to see the Keyfit coming to Canada!

The Keyfit is my dream infant seat. I've brought home two very small babies (3lbs and 5lbs) and would have given anything for the 4lb start weight, newborn insert, small chest clip, harness that adjusts nice and small, alligator UAS connectors, narrowness, etc, etc. I've consistantly read so many positive posts about it over the years... I don't think I've ever read something negative actually. I'd be All Over a Keyfit if I was in the market for a new infant seat.

I wonder if we'll get the mint green pattern (don't know the name -- Eclipse maybe?) to match the Trevi stroller in the newest sears catalogue?
