I am trying to assist someone who is looking for a new carseat and they are planning to forward face their child at one year. I sent them the video that is on this site but this is their response below. Any suggestions on what else I could send them to explain?

"I have done my research. I have seen your previous posts with information as well. I have also talked to a car seat technician. There are no rear facing seats on the market designed for toddlers taller than 32 inches. My DS is 11.5 months and 32 inches, and will be turned forward at 1 year, which is in 2 weeks. I will be buying a Marathon for my car, but can't afford 2 of them, so I was looking for a cheaper seat for my hubby's car. "

Can someone respond to this please?

Thanks!
Sarah

Britax essentially recommends disregarding the numerical height limitation in favor of the 1" rule, without explicitly stating as much (I suppose they could get into trouble if they did..)

We're still waiting on a statement from Transport Canada, but I would be surprised if they were in support of a strict 32" limit without regard for seated height.

The link Nicole posted should work. But if she is stubborn, tell her the Evenflo Adv. Triumph and Learning Curves True Fit do not have a quantitative rf height limit other than 1" of carseat above the top of head. Other manufactures would probably follow suit shortly.

The True Fit (available at Zellers and soon at Toys R Us) allows children to rear face until their "head is 1 inch below the top of the seat". It does not have a maximum overall height.

It is only $199, rear faces to 35lbs (higher than the Cdn Marathon) and forward faces to 65 lbs like the Marathon. With this seat, there could be no argument against rear facing past year!

I have spoken to the Compliance person at TC - it appears that the 1" to the top of the car seat can be considered a height range as per the standards. Just trying to get it in writing so that everyone is covered. They are allowing seats in that state the 1", so there shouldn't be a problem. Also in the teaching of the CRST Canadian course, it is stated that (at least in infant seats) to go by 1" from the top of the seat.
