Ok, I can't decide what to do. My DS is in a SS1 he is 9.5 months old he was last weighed in at 9 months at 20lbs and 28". So he has 10 lbs and /or 4 inches to grow. He has lots of room still in his SS1.

I have 2 Marathons one DOM is 06/2005 and the other in 2006. My DD is 4.5 years old (42 lbs) and is in the marathon with DOM 2006. This is in our 2003 Kia Sedona. She rides in a Radian in DH Honda Civic as he said the Marathon was too hard for her to get into in his car, she kept hitting her head on the door frame.

My question is, should I sell my Marathon DOM 2005 and buy a new one when my DS needs one or maybe even a truefit? I just bought some new marathon covers and I love the marathons but if my DS stays in his SS1 for 6m-1year longer than the other marathon is just sitting around. With the SS1 we have 2 bases so it is easy to move from one car to another, and if the grandparents need to transport him we can easily move one base. 10lbs and 4" could be 1 year away? I usually don't carry his seat out of the car, just when he falls asleep, which is nice.

I may be able to pass down the 2006 Marathon to my DS next year and get a frontier for my DD.

I don't know what the best thing to do, please help :)

Has anyone used a SS1 until age 2 for an average size child?

Has anyone used a SS1 until age 2 for an average size child?I'm about to eat dinner, but I do seem to remember someone's avg. sized 2 year old just fitting the SS1 -- prob'ly depends on torso vs. leg length.

I think I should get a picture of him in his SS1
He is in bed now but I'll try tomorrow:)

I didn't have my SS1 at the time, but my older son would have fit in it at 2 (he was just over 2 when I had to flip his AOE, which also went to 30 lb and 32 in). He is about 40th percentile for weight and 65th percentile for height. (I can't remember where he fell on the height curve at 2 though, the weight was about same.)

SS here too, dd is 9.5 months, 23lbs and 29inches.

I have a 3 year old nephew as of July who is only 25lbs and 31inches so technically could still fit into the SS.

I would go ahead and sell the Marathon and then by the time ds is out of the SS get something else of give him dd MA and get something for her.

Do you only need one seat for him?

I am returning to work in September and we will need a second car seat only because for daycare pick up and drop off and dh is a shift worker so it will change daily who picks up and drops off.

We also have 2 bases and it is just as convient to slip it into the base when needed. Now we nomrally leave it in a car so we don't have to carry dd in it.

YOu spent the extra $ on the SS for a reason. Use it, get your monies worth

Long story, I would sell it and deal with a new seat when he outgrows his SS.

If you decide to sell the MA, let me know! ;)

ETA: really. Let me know, please!

Personally, I'd get rid of them so that you could get a seat that RF up to 35 pounds. To keep the Marathon until he outgrows the SS1 may mean that you don't get anymore RF time past the SS1, which would totally make a new seat worth it to me and you'll have to buy a new seat when that expires anyway, so why not get something new a little sooner that will allow you to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, KWIM?

The only seat we can get up here currently to RF to 35 lb is the True Fit, which JUST came out. I would probably hold on to the SS1 and then see if the True Fit is a good next option, or who knows, maybe, there may be other options by then.

:yeahthat: That's my vote. Why let time tick away on the other MA? Maybe there will be better seats for him by the time you need one. You never really know what might happen. Maybe you'll have another baby:whistle: (j/k - but then you could get good use out of a TF or EFTA!)

I will eventually (once he outgrows his SS1) need 2 seats for him and 2 for my DD. We have 2 cars, if the grandparents take them it is in a rare occasion so we can just switch the seats over. I'm getting good at installing seats now. When I had my DD 4 years ago I had no clue about any car seats. I'm glad I found a Marathon when I did.

He's got loads of room in there!

I agree with the others - sell the older MA and plan to get a new seat when he gets closer to outgrowing the SS.

Or like you said - get a Frontier for DD when it gets to Canada, and pass her MA down to the baby.

Am I strange for still having the infant insert in mine at 8 months? It still seems to give him plenty of room but that extra bit of support.

I actually still use mine, I just took it out for the pictures. It is like a little pillow for him.

I had no idea this seat would last so long. They (Graco) say it will be good for the 1st year but I can see it will last a lot longer!!

If you all can believe it my DS was 10lb 13.6 oz at birth. He looked 3 months old but then at 6 months he only weighed 17.4lbs so he is about 50%. He is average. I thought he was going to be 22lbs at 6 months, (double the birth weight) I'm sure glad he wasn't!!!

eekkk! the AOe only goes to 32" RF? I'm going to have to check my manual. DS was just measured yesterday at 32" but only 25lbs. I hope to get a TF tonight or tomorrow, still scary

I'm pretty sure that's what it says on paper. That being said, I had it checked at a carseat clinic and the techs left him RF well past 32" height as he had over an inch of shell still above his head. The height limit is more of a guideline as it depends on where your child carries the length, in his torso, or his legs.
