Hi all. I'm moving to Phoenix in 2 weeks with my husband and two babies. The youngest is 7 months and I'm concerned that Air Canada won't accept her current car seat. I called Air Canada - twice - and no one can tell me anything definite.

On their site it specifies that the seat must be labelled, "to be used in Motor vehicles and aircraft". My current seat does not state this. I also read the seat shouldn't be any more than 16" in diameter. Mine is larger.

Before I go out and spend more money on a car seat that we might not even need, I thought I'd put out this Thread...

Has anyone flown with a car seat on Air Canada and did they check to see if your car seat was FAA (or airline) approved? Does anyone know of any car seat brands that are labeled as airline approved?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

What seats do you currently have?

All CMVSS seats are supposed to be certified for flight, so even if there's no sticker there will be a statement in the manual. Also--the 16" rule is because some airplanes have small seats and it's difficult to install larger carseats in them. I doubt the airline will come running at you with a ruler (although you do never know..) and your seat width shouldn't be a problem in any of the larger planes. Sometimes puddle-jumpers are a bit too narrow to install some of the larger seats on.

Keep in mind that once you relocate to AZ, you'll need to purchase FMVSS certified carseats and discontinue using your Canadian seats.
