Some jerk backed into me today, then got out of his car and started screaming and yelling at me. I was scared enough that after I got all the info, I locked myself into my car and left it at that.

There's a few hundred dollars damage to my car (the bumper has a dent in it, my license plate holder is toast) and now I'm terrified that this guy is going to try to say that I drove into HIM, because it's pretty hard to believe someone could miss a minivan while at a gas pump!! He was trying to intimidate me into not filing an insurance claim, so here 3 hours later I'm still upset. I was being belittled about how he would "buy [me] a new license plate" and that that's all the damage there was.. It was a pretty big bump--I'm surprised at how little damage there is. Oddly, if the guy hadn't been a jerk I probably would've just had him buy me a new license plate frame, since it hides the bumper damage!
Think I stood a chance?

I am so sorry Nic! What a complete jerk to yell at you I can imagine you are still shook up from that. I hope he doesn't try to turn this around on you.
Your van is still totally hot!;)

sorry that happened! i hate it when cars/trucks have stupid protrusions such as hitches and license plate bolts sticking out from their bumpers. bumpers should be smooth so that damage is minimized when parking/backing into other cars.
i think his license plate says a lot about his jerky personality.

Ugh, sorry about your brand new van getting backed into. That hitch is really something else. The nerve of some people.. the guy must already pay a ton for his insurance premiums or something (above and beyond ICBC's already high prices,) for him being so over the top about something so little - heck, he could've offered to just pay for the damage to the van if he's that worried. Not like it's your fault for parking behind him.
I think his license plate says a lot about his jerky personality.
You can say that again.

He was trying to blame me--for parking behind him!!
So look again at my last photo that I posted--imagine if he DIDN'T have the hitch.. it's what made him realize I was there. If he didn't have it, his whole backend would've been up on my front grill. Way more damage.
I was hit-and-runned (yeah great grammar) in an Ikea parking lot by someone with the big bolts on their bumper.. left two holes in my (then) brand new 2003 Toyota Corolla.. I have the worst luck with these things.. A few months after I got my 2000 4Runner brand new, someone rear-ended me.. In the first year I had my 2005 Sienna, someone hit me in a parking lot and took off...TWICE.
Why can't I just have nice stuff and leave it at that? (bawl)

I'm sorry this happened to you and wish you luck with the repairs. I think I'd get the pictures off the web if I were you though. They clearly show both tags. YKWIM Hope you can calm down and get a good night's sleep.

Unlike most states, you can't get any personal information from our license plates here :)

How much info can you get from a license plate in the US? (totally OT, just wondering)

I had a jerk rear-end me when I was pregnant. He was having road rage, then hit me, then tried to get me to not file a claim (caused $1300 damage to my car and a $2500 hospital bill), and finally he lied to the cop and said that I had "locked up my brakes in the middle of moving traffic" (I stopped behind a big dump truck, if he hadn't been tailgating in the first place he wouldn't have hit me). He acted like an idiot the whole time, and the cop just rolled his eyes and said that in California, the person who did the "rear-ending" was automatically at fault.
It kinda made me feel good  to know that the "little accident" probably got him dropped from his insurance company (USAA, he must have had prior accidents, we have insurance through the same company and they didn't seem pleased that he was in "another" road rage incident). Boo for the jerky dudes!

Oh dear! I hope that it doesn't take a long time to get the repairs done. I am shocked the the other driver wasn't the least apologetic ...

What an arse!
You should have told him to take the advice of his license plate and "EAT DRT"

You mentioned you were hit at a gas pump? If so, go back to the station and see if they caught it on the security camera, and if so, if you could get a copy of it. With no witnesses to defend either side, the tape talks :twocents: . In Saskatchewan it is illegal to leave your hitch receiver in like he did, and B.C. has stricter trailer towing laws, so I would assume it is also illegal there. And the hitch is the reason he realized he was there? Maybe if he would use his mirrors  . He seems like he has a negative attitude in general, and if he is arrogant enough to get a decorative plate with that kind of rude customization, you should claim. Check with the gas station about the security tapes soon so that they are easy to find if they have them.

Actually, I was in Washington State .. and I believe it's legal to leave your hitch arm/ball on in WA, and I don't think it's illegal in BC either?! I'm not worried about the security camera, since the guy who works there was actually standing there watching it happen (he didn't have the guts to walk between me and the car that hit me, thank god for that or he would've been crushed!!) so I do have a witness.. but this guy could make my life miserable by claiming I'm a liar, anyways! Since it looks like I rear-ended him, I can see him trying it.
Mirrors--what a concept.. ;) You've obviously never driven in Vancouver!
-Nicole.
Yeah, WA is interesting, isn't it?

Totally file a claim, of course he will try to say that you hit him, but icbc will call your witness (make sure they do). You'd be shocked to find out how much it actually costs to repair a bumper now.
I happened to witness a parking lot hit and run, stopped to write down the info when the driver hit a second parked car. As well our car has been hit three different times while parked at work. Lower mainland drivers .... or the spots are too small.

That sucks.
DH and I noticed over the weekend that the front bumper of our van has some paint scraped off. No idea how it happened.

Sorry :o. That's great you can't get someone's life story from their plates. I hope you can get this straightened out soon.
