I have a little girl who will be 5 in September (so she is 4.75). She is in an Eddie Baurer high back comfort booster/carseat. She is using the harness and is 36 pounds and 41.5 inches. The weight and height for her seat is 40 pounds and 40 inches so she is technically over the height limit. She is still well below the top slots (by about 1.5-2 inches) and well below the top of the seat (by about 4 inches). I want to get her a new seat since she is so close to the weight limit but I was hoping to wait for the new Britax Frontiers to come out, since I have only found 2 other seats she can use here (the Radian, which was VERY narrow for her bum already and she is tiny, and the Apex).

Is she safe in the Eddie Bauer for another month or 2 even though she is above the height limit, as long as she stays below the weight limit? Can she be 40 pounds exactly in it?

I went to a high end kids store here and the guy told me she was fine in her seat now, that I could just switch her to booster. I told him she was too little to be safely in a booster and she was much safer in a 5 point harness and he rolled his eyes!

Thanks,
Marcie

If it is this one, which it sounds like it is based on your description, then she is fine. The height limit is a bit flexible, since kids can carry most of their height in their torso, or in their legs. As long as her shoulders are BELOW the top slots of the harness and her weight is LESS than 40lbs, the seat is fine to keep using.

On the other hand, if it is this one, then the topmost position of the adjustable harness is not actually usable for a harnessed position, it is to make the backrest taller for booster use...check the back of your seat to be certain, it is imprinted on the back, on the plastic.

Whew - sorry those pics turned out so large! I just wanted to say, that if you haven't tried her in the Radian yet, it is worth a try. The bottom looks narrow, but it is deceptive. My 7yo dd who is NOT tiny found it comfy, and my almost 6 year old is still fine in it. In Canada, we also have the apex, which is huge and very wide, and harnesses to 65lbs, but requires a headrest behind it.
