View Full Version : Tether Qs - Radian, Frontier and Regent...

I posted earlier with some questions about the tether straps and the Radian - with 2 in the back bench seat of my town and country I can't tether since the anchor is in the middle of the seat - only one anchor.

That got me thinking though... we are planning to get another set of seats for our almost 4 year old twins (need seats for DH's car - 2000 Expedition - not sure which seats will be in my car and which will be in his...). I am returning their Wizards to Britax because they have some cracks on the base (Britax said it was not a safety hazard; but that I can return them). Britax has said when I ship these back that I can get replacement seats of my choice for $100 each. I'm either going to get Regents or Frontiers.

Now to my question... when I posted about those a while ago someone said that with both seats when DC hits a certain weight the seats must be tethered. But with the Radian it sounds like from reading the manual that you don't tether after 40 lbs. Could that be right? What is the difference?

Here're the tethering 'rules', just FYI.

Radian never 'needs' to be tethered (unless you are using the 'safestop device' that you use up to 40 pounds...it's on the back of the harness, it's easy to remove, if you don't have a top tether anchor then you would not use the Safestop).

Regent must be top tethered starting at 50 pounds.

Frontier must be top tethered starting at 65 pounds. (hard to imagine kids actually fitting that seat's harness till that heavy, that's the weight of an average 9 yo who would be using the seat as a booster by then).

Does that help?

That helps a ton. So now I think that I should probably go with a 3rd Radian (one for each kid) and then I'll do Frontiers for the Britax replacements - should be fine since like you said, by the time they have to be tethered they'd be in boosters (considering they turn 4 next week and weigh 34 and 35 lbs...).

Thanks!
