The new software version will probably be installed some night or morning between Friday and Sunday.

Because the new version is substantially improved, there will be a number of minor layout and appearance changes inititally. Also, the chat room may be interrupted until the new chat room integration feature is installed.

The downtime should be less than 30 minutes, I hope.

The first part of the update is complete. The forum and chat room integration should be working for the most part. All of the styles will look different as I had to revert all the customizations back to the default settings. I am in the process of customizing them again, but in the mean time things will look different, especially those styles in the "Vbulletin3" and "Nightshift" categories.

Many things have been updated. Features have been added. Usergroup permissions may have been altered. The chat room integration is modified. All these things are subject to change for a while. Some new features may be disabled, others may be enabled. Please don't get used to anything for now.

If you spot any errors, get any weird behavior, have any comments, can't see stuff you used to see, whatever it is that changed, please reply here! Thank you!

So, what's the deal with the tags? Will this improve search functions?

No idea lol. I need feedback.

It's very likely some of the new features will be disabled in the near future, once their utility is more clear.

Oooo... *browses*

Don't get used to anything? Where's the fun in that? :D

I'm not really sure how tags work, either, but I know what they are. They classify a post or thread, kind of like how you can add tabs to a textbook so you can turn right to that page more easily, yk? I'm just not sure how to use them online.

Tags are definitely keywords for searching. They are related to the search cloud, a popular feature in blogs.

Most features will remain. The verdict is still out on personal photo albums, private usergroups and some other features.

I'm seeing one change - under usercp, deleted threads that you get rep for no longer just disappear w/ the comments... yay! Instead, the deleted threads remain, along w/ comments, however, the title is marked N/A. :D

I figured out there was a change, when I went to click on the "quick links" and clicked "chat room" instead.....lol...they have switched spots.....

Gone to check everything out......

I don't see question marks- only check marks for subscribed threads and little tags for those threads with tags.

Never see any *?* But I have to search for the new posts, not used to it being moved.

Wait my page doesn't look like MSK's.

It appears your browser isn't picking up the graphic icon for threads that have search tags. Instead of the tiny price tag image, you are getting a missing image question mark indicator. I'm not familiar with Safari, but that seems like a good guess.

Is anyone else not seeing the search tag icon? If you mouse over it, you should see the underlying search terms.

That's how it should be. Seems like your browser can't access the image. Perhaps your service provider has stuff from our site cached. Maybe in a day or two the new images will come through for you, since this one is brand new with the update last night.

Here is the image below this. If you are getting an X or a ? then for whatever reason your browser just doesn't recognize that the image exists or the file formate (.png)

yea, that'd be way less annoying than a box question mark, and a HUGE box around it lol.

i asked my DH what he thought he told me to left click on it, and choose 'open in another window'

well when i do that i get this:

http://www.car-seat.org/images_pb/misc/tag.png

to me it looks like this:

I get an X which is also very annoying.

So, its the browers that is the problem?

What happens when you left click and "View Image"?

mommy2env

Nothing happens. :shrug-shoulders:

It does show what the tags are even if I dont click on it. Here is what it looks like when I put the cursor on the X.

It could be a Safari thing. I've always had little question-mark boxes here at this site, though I've noticed a few more this weekend.

I'm also not able to access my "subscription to thread" email links. As in, I'm subscribed to a thread, I get an email telling me someone's posted, and I click the link and it opens to that thread. But as of tonight they're not working, I just get an error message (they were working this morning.)

This is the error message:
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?p=445575#post445575”. The error was: “bad server response” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1011) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

You probably already know about this but - should sponsors be seeing the adverts??

Our sponsor's banners were never tied to usergroups.

The Google search bar was moved in the weekend upgrade from the bottom of the page to the top so people would notice it. It also has the static banner ads to the side. Before the patch, it was missing from many of the optional styles, but only because it was a bit of a chore and so I never got around to it. With the upgrade I had to re-do everything anyway, so I finally got around to it lol.

That is a good idea, though. I will look into removing the advertisements for Supporters, Benefactors and Sponsors. Problem is, in its current form, it would remove the Google search bar, too, so I will have to work on that. Perhaps for Supporters, Benefactors and Sponsors the bar would remain at the bottom? That would be relatively easy.

Makes me wonder about accepting some type of Google adword placements, but only for unregistered users and guests...

I'm using "Mail" for Mac and Safari. I thought it had stopped, but it was doing it again this morning.

I also thought of a request - any way we could be allowed to choose our own background for each forum? I was thinking how I tend to lose track of which forum I'm in, and it would be nice if I could set one level of forums to, say, blue, and another to brown or whatever. That way we wouldn't forget where we were. :)

I don't think there is anything that would allow that except for third party add-ons which I generally avoid for support and security reasons. I may be able to figure something else out, though.

Ah darn. I was hoping it was just a feature you could choose to turn on or something.

I've made some changes. Most members should no longer see any top ads, only the bottom banners like before.

Unregistered guests, those who have not confirmed email addresses and new members waiting for account approval will also have a top advertising banner with Google ads in the middle, an additional bottom Google banner ad and Google ad links near the Google search bar.

The Google Search Box was relocated to below the top navigation bar for all users.
