When did you realize offically you were going to be a *gulp* mom?

I've know for close to a month that i was pregnant and we're adopting SIL in a few weeks (wow its down to weeks!) i realized this morning that i'm not just becoming a parent and having kids i'm going to be a mom! It seems so weird to think of myself as someone's mom!

Anyone else just suddenly realize that they were just having a baby, they were going to be a mommy (and a damn good one :) )

Dont get me wrong this realization makes me very happy but it also makes me nervous, I've never been a mom before!

Wow, good question! ten years ago at this time dh & I were expecting ds#1 and in last minute prep for our (Feb 17) wedding. (EDD was July 21).
I'm not sure I really ever had that moment of "I'm going to be a MOM!" with them. With DD it was "I'm going to have a baby girl!" lol (DH is eldest of 5 boys - DD is the first girl in over 50 years.)

Hehehehe - I do remember that feeling (it still hits me sometimes, LOL) :p but I don't remember when I 1st felt it. I think it REALLY set in only when she laid on my breast for the 1st time after birth - when they held her up I remember thinking "is that it?" :o But burst into tears & turned into Mama Bear when she started suckling for the 1st time just seconds later :D

CONGRATS :D

Best case, you're absolutely right that Mama Bear instinct (as I like to call it) sets in ... but if it doesn't & it doesn't for every mom for various reasons, just try to be patient with yourself - there's no perfect mom ;) Love yourself even through difficult/confusing times & you're likely to feel more confident in your Mama role, which will certainly help you & kiddo work together :)
