i am wondering if there are reports of kids injured/killed in teh US in car accidents by age? im sure there are but am hoping someone has their fingers on the latest/greatest report.

im curious...b/c im wondering if its 4-5 year olds (that could be harnessed but arent) or if its 8-9 yo's (who could be in boosters but aren't)....these are just examples in my HEAD..not saying they are facts.....but i am wondering what the true facts are.

anyone know where to get this?

Have you searched NHTSA & CHOP?

This might help http://webappa.cdc.gov/sasweb/ncipc/leadcaus10.html
(off the top of my head, harnesses are 71% safer than nothing, and boosters are 59% safer than nothing, though).

I remember something in my tech class about how restrains reduce the chance of death by something like 50% more in the 0-1 year group compaired to the ages 1-3... and another class person asked if it was due to the fact that the seats are turned ffing at the age of 1 vs 30-35 lbs.

I checked individual ages 4-11 in the most recent year for statistics, 2005. In the unintentional injury category, I've selected only the top 10 reasons.

Below is the age and % of top ten reasons for unintentional death attributed to motor vehicle accident:

Age 4 40.2
Age 5 44.3
Age 6 55.1
Age 7 51.6
Age 8 56.9
Age 9 53.4
Age 10 52.0
Age 11 53.0

In 2005, Age 1 and Age 2 have drowning as the top cause of unintentional death with MV accidents a close 2nd.

Suicide enters the top 10 at age 10 :(
