I've been curious for a long time, but haven't come up with a good answer.

Why doesn't the Roundabout have HUGS or the LATCH bars? And why doesn't the Marathon have the same harness adjuster as the Roundabout?

I dream about Britax making a *narrow* seat the has HUGS, LATCH bars and the Roundabout harness adjuster.

It doesn't have hugs because it only goes to 40 lbs. MA has it to past head excurtion testing at 65 lbs. It doesn't past without it.

And due to the difference in weight limits, I greatly prefer the MA. If you're spending that kind of money, I want a higher limit seat!

The RA has been in the US since 1997 and they have done few things to change the design. The base is different, the buckles are different and couple other minor things. The Marathon was pretty much started from scratch. The LATCH bar was designed to make installation easier, which it has done. Why the different adjuster? No clue. I have often asked myself that, as the RA has the nicest adjuster out there. They tried on the Decathlon and failed. The HUGS are obnoxious, but they need it to pass testing beyond 40lbs.

I love the hugs because they help cutdown on the straps twisting :)

I was told that the RA adjuster is more of a light weight adjuster than the MA adjuster.

We don't know that for sure. We only know that the Super Elite didn't pass without HUGS and that now all Britax HWH seats use them. It could very well be that it passes fine without them, but they improve performance enough that Britax has made HUGS mandatory on all HWH seats (ff only for the convertibles).

Good point! I could not remember for the life of me which seat had to have them. I knew one had failed and knew the big Britaxes came with them right from the start.
