What kind of seat installs well on one of THESE vehicle seats? I've never installed a car seat on a vehicle seat like this. It looks like a nightmare! Any tips? Know any car seats (either rear, or forward) that can install on a seat like that?

I dunno, but it looks perfect to keep the lapbelt low on the lap of an adult (who of course is too big to fit back there, lol).

I don't think that would even fit to be honest! The child that needs the seat is 17 months, so either forward, or rear-facing (though I can't imagine you'd fit a rear-facing seat in there). It's a Mazda RX7 2 door "sports car".

I'd be curious to try a Radian since the curve of the vehicle seat looks similar to the curve of the Radian. Is it the pic or does the seat belt really come across the middle of the seat instead of at the back/hip area? If it is as forward of the bite as it looks, it really will be a nightmare for a forward facing seat.

Something with a base... Marathon or EFTA maybe?

Yes the seatbelt, seatbelt buckle really does come across the middle of the seat, rather then from the bight/behind your shoulder etc.

ARGH Of course, none of which we have in my country *cries* lol

We had a car like this come through our first check. The woman had an IO with base back there with about fifty towels in the scooped out seats under the base. The techs on that car had better luck installing it without the base... it just didn't fit! For some reason (not sure why) she was sent home with a Touriva... NO idea how they were planning on getting that in there. Even our instructor said "there's no way she's getting that seat in there tight enough."

What's an IO?

I think she meant AO - Cosco Alpha Omega. One of the 3-in-1 seats.

Either that or "Infant Only"...

Ok, call me weird, but my Signo has a tall square base on it that would probably fit quite tightly in that hole.

IF you could get in in the back. Its a big seat.

That's taking "forward of the seat bight" to the extreme !

Oh no, oh well thought I'd ask. I wonder if a Scenera or such would fit in there mmm

Does no one else use that abbreviation? It's on the check form so I assumed it was commonly known.

I had an Audi sports car of sorts come through once and the guy was putting a booster in the back. There was like 6 inches of room between the back of the front seat and the front of the back seat (totally trying to be confusing...:D). After reading his manual for about an hour, I found out that the back seat was only to be used by children, IF THE FRONT SEAT WAS NOT USABLE because there wasn't room. It was not a child restraint friendly car.

Actually, An Alpha Omega *might* work rfing because the belt path is pretty far back on the seat. Or maybe one of the swedish rfing with a reverse belt path. Ffing with reverse belt path might be good to try too. I've put a rfing RA in a Camero ( ex-MIL's) with similar seats.

I use it on the forms, but nowhere else. I hate the long list of choices (IO, IO with base, FF harness, RF conv, etc etc etc.

That's a good point, about the swedish seats. I am sure the AIO's wouldn't work because there just isn't enough room to RF an AIO without the person in front having their legs all up by their ears 'n all lol. I am a bit skeptical as to whether something like my Brio Zento would fit.. wouldn't know unless I tried. My BTWE is a big maybe too, but irrelevant since we can't buy them here any way.

Do they have another car they can use until the kiddo is able to use a booster?

Oh yes they do have another car to use. But I think Daddy just bought a new car and would have liked to be able to take bubba around in it if the need arised.

That is a possibility - but there are also airbags.

I think most of us are so detail-oriented we always say the brand of seat when we're talking here. If you don't, it just leaves everyone else wondering what seat you're talking about ;)

Gotcha. I was mostly in a different car at the time so I didn't catch which seat, or I probably would've said it too, lol.

The only other thing that might install would be a seat designed like the old Century 1000 where the RF beltpath was over the child's legs. I don't know if you have anything like that in NZ or not. It was a convertible, but installed like a baseless infant carrier.

PITB to get a baby into. but if it works, it works.

One of the girls in my tech class had seats like that. I can't remember what kind of car it was, though, except that hers was also a convertible. I do know I got a FF carseat in it surprisingly easily. I think it was that Cowmoo MA someone donated the first day of class. (Gee, I'm helpful, eh? "It was a... car, and I put a... carseat in it. Yeah!")
