Hi. I have a 10 yo daughter who is 57 inches and 63 lbs. She actually passed the 5 step test and could technically just sit with an adult seat belt. (this is what she wants! lol) I was wondering if I should just let her sit with an adult seat belt or should I put her in the Sunshine Kids Monterey Booster that seats kids up to 63 inches and/or 100 lbs? I feel like the booster would be safer (side impact protection), but at her height and weight is that actually true? Thank you for your help.

The booster would be safer, imo, simply because it does offer that side impact protection. She passed the 5 point test, but would she stay in position reliably, especially on a long trip? Does she fall asleep in the car, which means she goes out of position? My DS is still harnessed at 67lbs... It is not HER size as much as the booster limits; if she is still in booster limits, the seat would likely be a good idea, if you can get her to comply.... my mantra is as much restraint as possible for as long as possible!! Therefore, ERF, harness, etc. 'till you really can't.

The longer the better at every stage. If she still fits in a booster, she should still ride in a booster. I'm hearing really good things about the Monterey, and someday I'll actually be able to have 1st hand knowledge, but mine hasn't shipped from Sunshine yet.

My 10 yo ds is about that size and he's still in a highback booster in our van (no curtain airbags to protect his head), but in a no-back booster in our suv WITH airbags.
