for real. I have found a new Regent for $30. but I need your help and advice.
I live in Central America...and I found it at a store that sells used clothes and stuff. I know never to use a used seat. But this still has all the tags. The manual and the card to send in for registration. the straps look new etc... but anything that seems too good to be true generally is. so i took off the cover and looked at the padding etc...all good. I looked at the back. there is where i have my doubts. it has a black line at the bottom. i don't know if that is normal or not (this is the FIRST time i have ever seen one in person). the bottom on the back looks like it might have been a little beat up maybe during shipping ??? don't know.
so i have a favor to ask. could someone who has a Regent (maybe not installed to not cause more trouble) take an up close picture of the bottom black part?????? I want to compare and see if what i see is normal.
now i must admit i freaked out a bit when i saw it!!! i have never seen one, only on the internet....and it is in the Sahara which is what i would have chosen. This carseat will never sell down here....because carseats are not a law nor the norm here. :( the seat was just randomly put in with tons of other things .....random it was.
but i need your help.........to see if it is ok. I couldn't take a picture, b/c we didn't have the camera with us....and it would have seemed a bit weird....and it's in a hard to get to place here in the city. otherwise I wish i could show you what i saw.
but if i could have a Regent for $30........oh that would be great! especially with baby on the way.....and we could use our Radian for her....and move Boogie up to a Regent.
thanks!

Ok, that's not a bad thing. Its the place where the mold was on the seat.
I got a pic, but my seat has exactly that same line.

this might be the bargain of a lifetime!!!!!
thank you so much for trying to take a picture!!!!

oh you are amazing! thank you SO MUCH!!! that's the line i saw!!!! so it's supposed to be there. :)
however, I did not see a recline bar. ??????
If i didn't have my kids with me...i would have plopped down right there in the store and read the manual to see if all the parts were there....but not with two toddlers! :) hmmm...what do you think about the recline bar?

The Regent has to have the recline bar when installed. I called Britax and asked because when I had mine it just wouldn't install well at all with the bar, but they said you must use it :( Good luck, I hope that works out for you, thats an amazing deal!!

Depends on the date. If its manufactured before mid June 07, it doesntt have to have it.
The ones Manufactured after June 16 ? 2007 all came with recline bars.
However, in your circumstance and where you live, I'd be totally cool with buying it and using it without the recline bar.
Also, Britax leaves it up to the parents afaik to make a decision to use post advisory seats without the bar if they cannot get an acceptable install.
Considering you don't even have to use a seat and most people dont there, I'd not worry to much.

oh no :( when something seems too good to be true.....
but thanks to that picture I now know there is supposed to be a recline bar. I will have to go back again, but I really don't think it was there. I would have noticed the sticker saying that it is needed to be attached. Hmm....when you get them in the box (new) does the recline bar come unattached...and you have to put it in?? would i be able to order a recline bar from Britax??
so many unknowns on this.....
thank you so much for your help!

It all depends on the DOM.
Mama!
04-11-2008, 07:53 PM
Yes, the recline bar is loose in the box when you get it. BUT if it was DOM before 6/17 it wont have one.
MommyofBoogieBear
04-11-2008, 07:55 PM
DOM!! I COMPLETELY forgot to look for that. i really was like a deer caught in headlights to find this at this store. it was like I found a diamond....everyone else could see it too.....but nobody knew it was a diamond and all they saw was a black rock! :)
now, nice to know about the date. my concern is would it be ok in a crash. would i be able to get an acceptable, good, solid install without it. (again, yes, now i see it would depend on the date )
i will head out to this store tomorrow if this all looks like it will work out! and i will post pics! (don't know how to do that yet...but this is worth finding out how! :) )
any other advice is still wanted!!!!!

They've all come with recline bars...but you know there's at least a dozen of us willing to help you get one, right? We're a pretty helpful bunch, you know :love:

thanks Jools!!!! oh i can't believe that this is looking like this might be a real possibility!
and only you guys would understand my in "awe" experience! i literally looked around...as if someone was going to realize too what was sitting right there!!! no one did of course..... but i ran to get my husband (whispering! reminding him that this was the original seat i had wanted (but got the radian, and i am very happy with it) and reminded him of what they normally cost......
the reason we didn't get a regent...pure legistics of getting here!! next to impossible! :)

Jools..do pre advisory regents have those holes on the back for the recline bar? Just curious.

04-11-2008, 08:12 PM
Oh, yeah, even Huskies came with recline bars..they were just always optional (no...wait, they were required some of the time, but I can't remember, the rules have always been hard to follow!)before the advisory came out

Actually, Mama....I was wondering the same thing? we WILL go back tomorrow...thanks again for the pictures...and I can compare from there. I will look at the DOM and for holes......

I would TOTALLY buy this seat!
You can buy a recline bar from Britax. I believe the current price is $8 plus shipping. If they won't ship to you - or if the price is outrageous - I'd be willing to be that you could find someone on this board to help you.

advisory????
It's no big deal, Britax just keeps changing the installation rules for this seat...an Advisory is like 'well, we think it's better *this* way and not *that* way, it's not bad like a recall that would say 'do it this way or you risk Very Bad Things happening. Don't worry about it, we'll walk you through it
So cool to find a pre-advisory brand new Regent and for $30, it's like a dream.

it WAS like a dream when i saw it in this store!! i didn't even consider it...until i looked closer....and realized ALL the tags were still on....even the manual...... and i thought "this can't be happening!!!". :)
ok, thanks Jools.....i think i'll go ahead and get it...and see about the recline bar! :)
these can be installed without LATCH right? just with the actual seatbelt?

For $30 I would get it, order any parts needed, and if it is not good, then atleast you could get $30 for the cover. The more time spent thinking about it, more more likely that it will be bought by someone else.
BTW, what kind of cover is it?

I think if you use the Husky with top tether than you do not need the recline bar and to use the recline bar if not top-tethered. Not sure about the Regent though.
And I am sure if there is not a recline bar someone can send you, then Britax would sell it. Maybe just order one when we have a Britax part co-op to save you shipping.

Holy cow!! a $30 Regent!! Our sahara is a pre-advisory and I for the life of me cant get a good install with the recline bar, and the tech I took it to, read the manuel and said I dont think I understand all this mess, so I left. So my Regent is installed with no recline bar.

You have a dream about the OP going back to the store to buy her ridiculously cheap Regent, only to find out they raised the price to $137.:p:o:D
What a score - I'm glad you were able to buy it!:thumbsup:

I'm SO glad you were able to get the seat! You're going to love it, I think.
Your 1/07 Regent SHOULD have had a recline bar when it was originally packaged - yours was obviously lost somewhere along the way - not suprising since, though it is unused, it was most likely opened. My 11/06 Regent came with one. The nice thing about a pre-advisory Regent is that you can install it without the recline bar if you need to. It IS required in some installs, even with the pre-advisory seats, so just follow your manual in that regard.
If you find that you DO need to get a recline bar, just post back here and I'm sure one of us can help you out.

I hope you manage to get the
recline bar for this seat. It sure was
a great find. I wish I had that sort of
luck in thrift stores. I always find the
seats made in 1989 for $60+, never
anything this cool! I hope your install
goes well, I also cannot wait to see
the photos.

When I lost my Husky recline bar, Britax sent a replacement for free -- I'm not sure that's their standard operating procedure (:o) but you should definitely at least be able to buy a replacement....

:
ROFL!!!!!!! I laughed out loud on that one for a while!!! now, I will make you feel better.
You know you spend too much time on car-seat.org when......
You are in the store and see this carseat....and quickly scan the room to see if anyone else is RUNNING over there to get it... meanwhile still seeing if someone is coming over to grab it as you look at it.....
or...
you are playing car with DS (i had the carseat in the kitchen up against a wall, and I put a chair in front of it...so I was pretending to drive...) and as you are pretending to drive, DS goes "no! wait Mom! I have to buckle it! ....as he is trying to quickly get all buckled in! :D
OK, I have been too tired to figure out how to take pictures and insert them. This leg of the pregnancy is getting to me! but i finally took the pictures...and i looked up an old thread to see how....but i think i am still confused. i will give it a whirl before i plead for help!
thanks for everyone's enthusiasm for me on this! my friends in the states don't understand how excited I was...much less my friends here (in the land of no carseats!). DH understood (I have taught him well! ;) ).....so thanks for sharing in the excitement!
ok,....i will try to post the pics

Do you have Photobucket or something similar?
Upload them there, then click on the link in the "URL" box (second down)
Then at the top of your Reply box here, click on the button second from the right (yellow background w/ mtns) - and past the link there

even easier......use the photobucket account and copy the IMG link. Then paste it right into the post.....

hmm...ok. the only thing i have set up for pictures is with Kodak Gallery. and it's not working. :( so i will try to set up an account with photobucket....since we know that works. thanks for your help! i'll try this tomorrow! :)
yes! my husband and i are STILL in amazement of the find! he installed it today without the reline bar...and from what i can see.....it's rock solid! yippie!
DS was excited about his pockets on the side for his drink! :) (the radian didn't have that).
