In order to avoid using negative reputation as much as possible, we are going to give the built-in vBulletin forum "infraction" system a try. Basically, this is nothing more than an "official" warning via private message that an Admin or Moderator may send in response to spam, advertising, personal attacks or other clear issues that go against the posted guidelines (or generate numerous reports/complaints). Infractions don't count as negative rep, they don't result in any loss of access or features, they really aren't anything more than a reminder of forum guidelines that is logged by the system. That allows all the Admins, Moderators and Usergroup Leasers to see what is sent as a warning by any other Admin or Moderator. This should minimize people getting multiple messages in response to a post and also allow us to see exactly what was written to a member if it ever becomes an issue.
Ideally, negative reputation will now generally be reserved for cases where multiple infractions have been given for the same reason or for very serious issues like harassment. Hopefully, this also resolves some of the complaints that have been made about moderator use of negative reputation comments.
