When I was in the city tonight I checked for the EFTA at Toys R Us and they didn't have it. When at Walmart they had a display EFTA in brown that had a sign on it saying it had been discontinued and was no longer available. I even checked to see if the sign was attached to the seat thinking maybe it was for another seat but it was attached  Anyone else know anything about this?
Oh, and there was no GN at either stores.

Well, I for one would be extremely disappointed if it was. I NEED that seat.
I have my doubts that that is since it seemed to be a big seller and why on earth would they go through the trouble to get it certified for Canada just to sell only one run.I think most stores are running low or empty until the next shipment is out.
Sorry to say this but my experience is when it comes to Walmart employees they are not really striving for customer service excellence. So they just popped up a sign any sign so people would stop asking about the seat that was sold out.
Or Walmart is really not selling the seat anymore. But other stores will be.
Or maybe they are no longer selling the Barley Twist and put discontinued on that model number since they will be getting a higher end version with a different cover in stock.
One can dream right?
Maybe Evenflo realized hey this seat sold well we can make more money if we sell the DLX and Premiere versions...and more people might take notice of a seat with a cover like say Sandbox;) and buy. Because say if I was superficial about my seats and did not research I would not buy a seat with the Barley Twist cover and instead buy a seat with a more attractive cover option.

Maybe there's a recall about to be announced? About the EFTA being wrongly labeled as "not aircraft approved"? Or maybe they're going to match the U.S. weight limits and call it a "new" model?
I can dream, can't I? ;)

I'm guessing someone screwed up with that label. Our WM had the old Triumph display model up even though all they had for sale was the new EFTA for over six months after it came out. I bet they sent out those "discontinued" labels for the old Triumph and told the employees put them on the display models, but some stores already had already replaced the old display with the new one.
ETA: Just realized you're in Canada, sorry for not paying attention! Even so, I hope it's just a mix-up like I first guessed!

That is what I was thinking after I posted earlier.

Could it maybe be just that particular cover choice that is discontinued?

I wondered this as well. I did purposely check to see if it had the CDN labels just because I had only seen the black EFTA here in Canada (although I haven't really been looking) and I also looked for the not certified for airline use sticker which was there.

I don't recall seeing the regular Triumph at Walmart . . . just the Titan. I also thought maybe they had mixed up the signs but it was a "professionsl" looking sign that fit at around the base of the EFTA and was really really stuck on there. They were also extremely low on all carseats

I wondered if that was it as well. The only cover I have seen previous to this is the black one.
My other thought was maybe it is just because it is out of stock
For anyone who is interested, this was at the Polo Park Walmart in Winnipeg.

I think it's just a supply issue. I know that TRU/BRU has more on the way - can even tell you that the store on the west end is expecting 14 from the current shipment and it's still expecting it in the next few weeks.
My wal-mart just sold out of the last this past week, I know they've gotten at least 3 shipments in including the one it arrived on, so I'm expecting them to get more in again unless they change the pattern they have.
I would be 99.999999% sure that they won't discontinue the seat in Canada because it has been hugely popular - all the stores in our city are sold out from what I can tell and the bigger stores sold out quickly. Plus they have a full page ad in the Baby Catalog that just came out. I'd be highly doubtful that a seat that they a) can't keep in stock because of selling out, b) went through the expense to have it certified to CDN standards, and c) paid to have a full page ad in the baby catalog - which surely has to be a good chunk of money, would be discontinued after such a short period.
Maybe walmart will be getting a different cover in and they're just discontinuing the barley twist, but I'd suspect the sign was put up just to stop people from asking about it. If they were taking the time to put a sign up, I'd expect them to just pull the display model from the shelf and RTV or whatever they do. (Wal-mart doesn't sell display models anymore, so there's no reason they'd keep a discontinued demo seat on display.)
I think Evenflo just wasn't prepared for the seat to be so popular. The old Triumph really wasn't a big seller - at least not in my area, I have yet to see one at a check here... So they probably just didn't realize how quickly the seat would disappear.
Hipmaman had replied to that airline thread and said if any recall does happen over that sticker it's likely to be awhile before it happens.. I've never observed seats being pulled from the shelves here prior to recalls either fwiw, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
