View Full Version : How much should we sell our Princess Radians for? (moving to the U.S)

We got 2 brand-new Princess Radians for our girls last fall, and we just found out we're moving to the States, which obviously means we have to once again buy new carseats!

We're planning on selling them before we leave... what do you think is a reasonable price? We paid $279 each plus tax, so about $300. Kids never eat in the seats, so they're still practically brand-new...:(

It would depend on how old the seats were, when is the expiry date?

Like I mentioned, brand new - DOM 6/16/07. As soon as they became available in Canada, we snatched up 2.

too bad you have to sell them. I would say if the expiry date is resonable $174 to $200. where do you live? heck I might buy one off you LOL

Ya, I know. It pains me to have to sell them, trust me.

I live in Edmonton, AB.

Ideally you should post them in the Swap forum once you've determined a price. For the sake of this thread, any swap-type content needs to move to the Swap forum or PM.

I was in the reverse boat 6 years ago--I moved from the US to Canada and had to replace my seats.

I would consider $175-$200 as well. That sounds fair to me.

We're not ready to sell them yet... we're not moving till the end of June, but we've got so much to think about already (loads of paperwork, selling/buying a home, insurance, banking, etc.) that I wanted to get this figured out now instead of waiting till the last minute. A friend of mine wants to buy one of them, so I just wanted to get a feel for what you guys would find reasonable.

I'd also been thinking $200.

You can pre-arrange something for the sale though :)

Let me know if you want any advice on the cross-border move.. I lived in Silicon Valley for 7 years (TN Status) before I moved back to Canada. I encountered a lot of stuff, and learned a few things along the way :)

Well sad to say, that it doesn't really matter what you paid, it only matters what someone could buy them for now. Online, you can get a Princess Radian for $259.99 + 5% tax and free shipping (so $272.99). Personally, a $73 saving wouldn't be enough for me to buy a seat with a year less on the life span (assuming I was planning on needing the seat for a long time). I'd be more inclined to pay $175. You could ask $200 though to give yourself some bargaining room.

What's terribly annoying is that the Radian is the same seat as the U.S. model (80? or is the 65?). It's not like the structure is any different. So, if you buy the same seats, all your doing is losing money on two to replace them with the same seats with a different sticker! Frustrating! I really wish that seat that were the same in both countries got a sticker from each country, I really don't understand why that can't be done...(other than because manufacturers have a higher cost for their seats in Canada due to shipping and selling less of them, so need to make more on each seat and they don't want us saving money and buying them in the U.S.).

No kidding!

I'd buy one of them for $200.

Oh, trust me - I've given lots of thought to the whole "but it's the same seat with a different sticker!" point:mad:, and I keep coming back to the "what if" scenario... What if we were in a terrible accident, and insurance wouldn't cover anything wrt kids' possible injuries just because the car seats didn't have U.S. - approved stickers on them. Just not a chance I'm willing to take. But it still frustrates me, and really gets me upset. It's totally ridiculous.

As for the life span vs. price... I'm thinking if someone was to buy a Princess Radian from a retailer in June of 2008, it would probably have a DOM of at least two months or so prior to that (if not longer, depending on the retailer). So it's not like someone would be getting a whole extra year out of it, brand-new. And, with an expiry date of 8 years past the DOM, ours will still have 7 years of use. Most kids will have outgrown their Radian by then. So... I think a savings of $73 for a car seat that can be used for 7 years would be a pretty good deal.:)
