View Full Version : Scenera Install??

Okay...so I am having issues with my Scenera installing. It seems that no matter what I do it still leans/tilts to the right just a little bit. I do not have it terribly tight, or anything that I can figure out WHY it is doing this. I have it in the center of the seat, not on the leather parts of the seat on either side, but it seems to do it NO matter what. I have uninstalled & reinstalled it 3-4 times but it does it EVERYTIME! My main concern is that it is unsafe. It is barely leaning, but is it okay? Am I doing something wrong?? It is installed in a 2 door 97 Subaru Impreza passenger outboard RF with the seat belt that is a lap/shoulder belt that locks when pulled all the way out. I have it currently locked and pulled tight. I have a blanket under it to recline it a little bit, but it is super upright, but I think it's not to upright as DS is 17 months old & only rides for short trips in this car. So here is a picture of it...does it look Okay? Anyone have any tips? It's more annoying than anything to me!

A slight tilt is fine as long as the seat has less than 1 inch of movement at the beltpath. I cannot see the tilt with the pic from the side. If you take a pic from the front we will be able to see it. To correct the tilt you can use the locking clip instead of locking the seatbelt.

Here is more info on locking clips http://www.carseatsite.com/lockingclips.htm

Here's a thread from earlier today with some tips on how to maybe help the problem with your tilt. http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=40632 It's the post by crunchierthanthou . Part of it I'm specifically talking about... When you have the lap belt as tight as you can (and the seat move less than 1" in any direction at the beltpath), lock the shoulder belt without feeding any additional webbing into the retractor. Doing this last should also help keep it from tipping.
HTH!
Edit: Could you install it in the center? That would definately fiix the tilt if it was a lap-only belt. It could also allow you to recline the seat a bit more...If not, then the tilt isn't a safety problem, but if it bothers you that much, you could use a locking clip, and it would fix it as well!

I will try Crunchies tip. I can not install it in the center as I just can not get a good install with ANY seat. I could recline it a bit more, but unless it is unsafe with the angle I have it then I am fine with it. So DOES it need to be more reclined? It is probably dead on the 30 degree. Is there a reason to not have it at anymore than a 30 degree angle? If I need to install it more reclined I deffinatly can even with it where it is as I hardly ever have anyone ride with me. So if it is okay with the tilt I may just leave it alone, but is it TO upright? Now I am confused! Akkk!

Ehh... I think it's a bit too upright, but the others didn't say anything. The only way we would be able to tell (over the 'net) is to have a straight picture, which can be hard to do in a 2-door. You'd have to line it up with something on the other side (like a building through the window) and snap a picture so we could tell.

Do you mean like, having it at a 28 degree? I'm just a bit confused on that.

Sceneras are really prone to tipping. Another tip (also posted in that thread earlier) is to pull back the cover and tighten across the whole beltpath. When you're just pulling right by the buckle and cinching it tight there, it pulls that side down. With the shoulder belt pulling up on the other side, you can get some serious lean.
It is rather upright. It's hard to tell just how much from the angle of the picture. He's 17 mos, right? I think it might be close to okay as long as his head doesn't slump when he sleeps.

Yeah like a little more than a 30 degree..like 27-28?? Is it dangerous? I know that they say you need a full 45 degree in the manual, but we use a lesser angle without a problem...but if 30 is the bare minimum than I have NO issue reclining it a bit more. Anyone??

30 is the minimum. It needs to be reclined at least 30 degrees. It can be as much as 45 degrees, but I don't think your son needs it that reclined.

:yeahthat: I could not tell real well since the pic was not taken on level ground. When I look at the bricks on the house outside the window it appears to me the rear of the car is parked on a slope and this will make the Scenera appear to be at the incorrect angle. You will nee to check tha nagle on level ground.
