I just bought two clek booster seats to be installed in my 2003 Ford Expedition. The problem is that when I use the center latch system in the second row seat for one of the booster seats I then cannot use/reach the seat belt release (the boosters must sit side by side in our Expedition to allow for access to the third row seat). I read that Ford provides seat belt extenders free of charge but are they safe for use with the Clek booster seat?
The problem with seat belt extenders is that they change where the lap and shoulder belt meet. What I mean is that instead of the lap and shoulder belt passing all the way across the seat and meeting at the anchor they will meet (usually) about 12" away from the anchor. This means that the seatbelt will meet somewhere in the middle of the child. This would obviously be an unsafe situation so you can not use a seat belt extender. I'm surprised that you are having this issue. LATCH bars are spaced 11" apart, and most seatbelt anchors are much wider than this. Our seat is also pretty narrow, so I'm not sure you wouldn't have this same problem with another seat, although an unlatched seat can be moved around. Are there LATCH anchors in the third row seats? Our seat is also safe and certified for use unLATCHed. If I can help any further please post or message me.
Thank you, Michael

Thanks for the help! My kids love their new seats and so do I! The problem is with our Ford Expedition's seat belt release design--it is basically in a fixed, shallow position and does not allow for much adjustment. Our Olli sits fine in between but the seat belt release is down under the plastic mold of the armrest--I'm sure this would be a problem with any booster now that I look. I do know that the Olli is fine without using the latch but would like to use the latch if possible. Thanks again! The Murrays

I see your issue but yea I am not sure there is going to be any good booster that will avoid this issue. That center position is also narrow. The only other thing would be a narrow convertible like the Sunshine Kids Radian where you weren't having to buckle a seatbelt in daily but I also don't know your children's age, height & weight. So, That might not be an option either.
We just bought the Olli as a back up booster for my 6.5yr old and she LOVES it and I am very impressed by it. I was even shocked how well it fit my 4.5yr old (who isn't mature enough for a booster just yet) when I tested her in it. I must say Clek put a lot of thought into the design.
