I have a difficult time getting a good install in the center (seatbelt) of our Nissan Pathfinder by myself. I usually have to ask DH to help me. I think it is because of the leather seats, and the center seat is not very squishy.

So, yesterday, I thought of another idea.

I routed the seatbelt through the RF beltpath and buckled it.

Then I temporarily borrowed the outboard latch anchors and "installed" it as tight as I could. I checked for movement, and it was fine.

Then, I tightened and locked the lap/shoulder belt.

Then I released the lower anchors and stored them in their pouches. When I released them, the seat did not raise up at all.

I recheck for movement, and it was fine.

Then I did the RF tether.

So.....

Is this okay?

Yes, that's fine -- mechanically, it's no different than having someone else hold the seat while you tighten.

Perfectly fine as long as you alway remember to unhook the LATCH strap.

Good thinkin'. although, it might be a little difficult to store the LATCH straps after the seatbelt has been tightened.

Thanks guys. It sounded okay to me. I just wasn't sure if it would/could damage the anchors to be pulled at that angle. I would think that it would be okay, but wanted to be sure. I did think it was kind of clever. :p

Luckily, the cover on the seat in that car does have the little pouches for the latch clips, so storing them is not a problem.
