View Full Version : If it was your child, WWYD?

My son is not quite 16 months old, over 33 inches tall and over 30 pounds. In other words, a big and tall kid. With a really big head to go with his really big body. And by big, I mean he frequently wears hats in a 3T or 4T size.

He is currently RF in a Britax Marathon. And I know that he's over both the posted weight and height limits for our seat here in Canada. But I also know that the exact same seat has different limits in the US, and I am truly terrified to turn him FF.

If it was your child, WWYD? Would you keep him RF to 33 pounds? I know that no one can really tell me to use my child restraint outside of its limits, but I'm so so scared to turn him around. I'm worried about the limits though, and am considering reinstalling his seat tomorrow.

Help. Please.

I actually borrowed a scale this morning, and DS actually lost a bit of weight! I'm not worried about it since I think it is due to him walking more and more, but he's now under 30 pounds. So I am going to leave him RF for now. But I'd appreciate if you'd still answer my question, for later this year when I deal with this all over again. :)

I am NOT a tech so this is just my opinion... If my son passes 65 lbs in his Radian Premier and isn't mature and/or old enough to use a booster, I will use it to 80 lbs provided he isn't too tall for it.

If I had a baby that wasn't yet 2 years old, I would keep him RF to the US limits of the seat. :twocents:

I forgot that my Cdn MA had a 30lb weight limit and left DD2 RF til 33lbs. I'm not saying you should do it at all, but when I realized my mistake, I felt no fear/guilt/remorse and I quite likely would have made the same choice knowingly as well.

I say this as a mom, not as a tech. I *personally* would keep a child that young rearfacing to the US 33lb limit. My daughter hit 30lbs right about 2 years, so I felt ok turning her, but if she'd been younger I would have pushed that RF limit. We know it's not going to fail at 31, 32, 33lbs, and most people don't weight their kids all that frequently anyway.

I have my 15-month old, 29-lb, 33" long son in a Regal Ride that has a 35lb RF weight limit.

I hate the seat, but I knew I'd kept it around for a reason. It's not expired, but it was made prior to the Canadian RF limits being lowered.

If I didn't have that seat available to me, I'm not sure what I'd do, honestly.
