I've been installing my marathon with the locking clips, but I'm wondering if using the ALR is "safer"? Sometimes the locking clips come unsnapped when I hit the car seat with another (on accident) or it gets hit with something. Should I just route the ALR belt over the done up locking clips and call it good? I guess that in the event of a sudden stop the ALR belts would lock even if the locking clips did come unsnapped...
Wondering what you pros think.

I would go for ALR. My belts are ELR so I need to use the locking clips, but I notice to that they come undone. I now have the seat in the center rear with lap belt and top tether.

You mean switchable retractors, and it's just a matter of personal preference. I would not route the belt over closed retractors. Those are designed to break in an accident, and could create a good inch of slack in the belt. In RF seats using the switchable retractors can cause some seat tilting, in which case you might want to just use the lockoffs.

So should I just use the locking clips then?

Rf I would just use the lock-offs, yes. What I'd do though, since you're concerned about one popping open accidentally, is just use both of them. Britax permits the use of either one or both, so if you use both then you don't have to worry about what happens if one gets bumped and pops open.

I do the same with all Britax convertibles.

Ohhh yeah... duh! I didn't even think about there being two of them. (Even though I have been using them both.) Thanks!

I had a problem with my BV locking clips coming open (RF). I called Britax and they sent me a new (and I think bigger) set of locking clips and installation instructions - no charge. They worked better.
