We have a 2-door car (Acura CL) with two extremely sculpted seats in the back. Think bucket seats, but in the back. There is no seatbelt in the middle of the back. The flat part ranges from 10" wide to 13", but the base of most carseats is much wider than that. The only seat at our local Target that was narrow enough was the Snugride, and buying that will just postpone the inevitable. How do we install a carseat on these seats? Can the seat bridge across the sculpted part? Can we fill the seat with towels to make it flat? What is safe?
We also have a large SUV (for towing), so we do have a vehicle that will definitely work for driving the baby around, but I'd rather be able to use the car as well.
thanks for the help.

A Britax *should* fit just fine in that sculpted seat (the base is only like 11 inches wide). :)

I had the same issue but with forward facing my seats start out pretting wide in the front as they go back it narrows to 10 inches. I have only tried forward facing as my dd when rf the car was broke down anyway, I have been trying to find a high weight seat for her and I contacted Compass (Learning Curve) on the True fit and they said it should fit as the base part on the bottom was only like 7.5 inches. (Im not sure if thats right or not but that was the info from the manufactor.) You may want to try that. If you have a Walmart near you, you can order it from online have it shipped to the store try it and if it doesnt work you can return to the store. If you do try it please post back and let us know if it works or not.

OP here; thanks for the replies.
Granted I didn't try it (didn't have the right car with me), but the Britax was one that was almost definitely too wide (I think it was 14"), and it's widest at the front and back, whereas the car is widest in the middle.
Thanks for the tip on the True Fit - it's one I was eyeing anyway.

An infant seat without the base will most likely work better than one with the base. When you get to convertibles a Britax seat should work. What you are describing is definitely not a Britax. It sounds more like a Alpha Omega to me. And actually, An AO WILL work in an Acura if you remove the base portion.
My best friend had an Acura and I put several seats in it, including a Round about and a Marathon.
