Just curious, for those of you who have older kids, say 4+ that still ride in a stroller sometimes, do you make them use the seatbelt/harness when they're riding? I've always been a believer in if it has a seatbelt, you're going to use it, but my husband says it's overkill and there's no safety risk, and so on. Wanted to see what everyone's opinion was.

Yes. On the rare occasion that 4 1/2 year old dd rides in her stroller, she wears the harness.
1) it keeps her in place. I don't have to worry about her sliding out or leaping out of her seat while I"m pushing because something caught her attn.
2) She'd freak if all buckles weren't buckled
3) You never know if there's a stone or curb laying in wait just to tip your stroller the wrong direction and spill out the child.
But It's mainly #1. I want to relax and know that no matter how fast I'm walking, she's not going to decide to off load. At a large zoo, when we're going from one exhibit to another, I might consider it with the in/out factor. But not when it's dedicated walking.

Well, Avery is only 14 months, but I use the stroller harness as a 3 point instead of 5. She usually sits back on her own but prefers to be able to lean forward a bit at times. It has a tray and she is not wild in it so I feel it is safe. I would never not use atleast the 3 points, though. If/When she starts to fight being in the stroller, etc we will resume using the shoulder straps.

Since babyhood, with all of my kids, we've had the same rule for strollers:
If you remain seated, I won't buckle you. If you do not remain seated, I will buckle the harness.
Works for us because my kids HATE be restrained in the stroller.

I have a 2 1/2, and almost 4 year old. They both get strapped in when they hop in the stroller. Mainly for safety so I know they are there, and can't get out. All it would take is me looking at a clothing rack, and one of them hopping out and running away. If they are harnessed then I know they are there, and it makes my shopping experience much more pleasurable :D

I always use the harness for younger children, but only as a 3 point (just waist buckle), not 5 point. I do not always buckle in my 2.5 yo. I will buckle him in if I know he'll be in the stroller for while (mainly just to keep the buckles out of the way) or if I know he's going somewhere that he'll throw a tantrum.

I'm in agreement about using the 3 point instead of 5... I dont really see a point to shoulder straps for older kids for just normal stuff. Now if it was a jogging stroller and I was running, yeah. But the 3 point part is ALWAYS on.

I buckle for the jogging stroller, but not the regular stroller. DD is very good about not getting out unless she asks.

This is my rule too. Most the kids i have are really good but my godson liked to jump in and out of the stroller so he was buckled in the seat every time

I did the same with my son, and DBK.
Don't remember last time I used my stroller, maybe last spring. i didn't use the harness cause we was at the zoo and wanted her to get out freely. But I did before that use the harness so she couldn't lean all different ways and try to climb out. I guess I shoudl try to see it now, the weight limit is only 40lbs.
