Do you need to buy a specific car seat for a plane ride?
Also, how big is the average seat belt length? I live in canada and hope the infant seat will fit the seat belt....

i flew wih my infant seat about 4 yrs ago. i remember it fit fine. i brought the base on the plane with me. i actually hooked it on and carried it with the base attahced through the airport then installed the base with the plane seatbelt and snapped the seat in. that way i didn't have to worry about checking the base and something happening to it since i hate the way they install in cars without them. plus i thought the seatbelt over the top of the baby on the plane would annoy me and her.

If you live in Canada, anything with a TC sticker is approved for plane use. It won't say FAA approved. If you want to take that seat to the US, make sure you keep your manual with you so that you can prove that. You may also want to search online to find somethng you can print out saying that the FAA accepts TC standards from plane travel.
You shouldn't have any trouble with the seatbelt being long enough.

The infant seat fits fine... the person in front can't recline much but oh well. Our graco snugride base did not fit with the plane seatbelt, but we took it on as a carryon anyways. I would have preferred the base so the belt wasn't over his lap, but we dealt with it. They did check the sticker on all 3 airlines.. 4 out of 7 flights.
Sounds like the first time flying with baby in a while? If you're flying air canada make sure to pay attention to the new stroller regulations... We had fun with that over Christmas ;)
