Ok, we are ready to purchase a double, but I am overwhelmed LOL!

We are looking for one around $600-$700.

Is there another brand we should be looking at?

We don't need all the conversion kits, just the bike trailer, and maybe the strolling kit. So two kits.

Things I am interested in:

Nice size seats for the kids

Lightweight

Doesn't need to be able to fold down, but that would be a plus!

Am I missing anything? Since I have never pulled kids behind a bike, I'm not sure what features are most important.

Please help

My sister has a double Chariot and LOVES it. Theirs stays set up in their garage.

She has only used it with her 2-year-old daughter since her 2-week-old son is obviously too young to use it. :)

They also have the strolling kit, but primarily use it as a bike trailer.

My DN is so comfortable in it that she often falls asleep. :)

Thanks Patriot. :) Do you know which model they have?

Melissa, we just bought the double Cougar and love it... DD is too young to go out for rides in it but fits quite nicely. Even DS fits in it... :)

I will double-check with her, but I think it is the Cabriolet.

One of my friends just bought the Cx2, but she hasn't been able to use it yet. She bought it because you can use the hiking kit, jogging kit, strolling kit, skiing kit, and the biking kit. Personally, I think it is overkill for her, but she wanted it.

Hmm...I am thinking the Cabriolet is going to be the one for us.

Like I said we are only needing the bicycle attachment, but it looks like I can still add the strolling if I *need* to.

Where did you get yours Maria? How much was it?

I hope I am not missing out on some other great brands?!?!

The guy I bought my Hybrid Specialized bike from had a recommendation but that has been a few years ago, so I don't remember. I know he said I wanted something lightweight, especially for hauling around 2 kids.

Without taking into consideration all the extra attachments, what is the Cabriolet comparable with in the X-Country series? I want to make sure I am getting a nice cockpit for the kids.

We got ours at REI. If you're a member, you have a 20% off coupon for one item through the end of March. Guess what we used ours on...? ;) (one reason we bought now rather than waiting for DD to turn a year)

ETA: The reason we bought the Chariot Cougar was b/c of the suspension that we couldn't find on other trailers. We didn't look at other models of the Chariot, however, so I'm not sure about the suspension on them.

You can get all those kits with the Corsaire as well ;)

To me it doesn't look like the x-country series are as big. The Classic looks taller and has a "trunk" in the back of it with the net flap and a waterproof flap to cover it (same as on the front to cover the kids) where the x-country looks smaller but has a basket.

I haven't ever seen the x-country series only the Classic so I don't know much about them except you buy all the kits seperately and with the Classic it comes with the bike kit and then the others are seperate.

Let me know if you want any pictures and I can take some IRL pics for you :)

Yeah, I don't really understand the need for all those kits, but maybe that is because I am not as "outdoorsy" as some. ;)

I think i'd feel like a horse pulling a trailer behind me :p

I honestly don't think it would be the easiest thing to do especially with 100lbs of kids in there. I do love it as a bike trailer as in the summer that is my means of transportation if I want to go anywhere. We live in a small rural area and DH takes the car to work with him. Plus it is good exercise. Come winter, forget i'm staying inside or i'll pull a sled.

The wheels, suspension and weight are important factors between the Cabriolet and the Cougar. I have a Cougar 2, and my friend has a Cabriolet... Her Cabriolet can get a little uncomfortable when pulling two kids in it versus my Cougar 2. I think the Cougar 2 has better resale value--especially around here.

Did you look through the Chariot stats for the Cabrio, Cougar and CX models on their website already?

Buy an extra axle when you order your Chariot and make sure you have an axle on both of your bikes. Sometimes I get tired when I'm out riding, and sometimes my ex-DH takes my kids for a ride so it's nice to have the flexibility of using either bike.

We have the Corsaire XL, which the Chariot rep told me is taller and wider in the cockpit - my 6 year old and 4 year old can still comfortably fit in it. It also has an adjustable suspension. I find it easy to pull behind the bike. I also like using the jogger attachment. DH was a little shocked at the price tag, but once he used it, he's never complained! I would second the recommendation to buy a second axle - you never know when you might want to switch who's pulling.

I spoke to a Chariot rep over the phone, and she was unbelievably helpful - explained the different models and features and helped me figure out which I needed - great customer service! If you're debating between models, I'd suggest calling them.

I really love ours, and can't wait until dc3 is old enough to go biking!

HTH,
Tara

I have narrowed it down to the Corsaire XL, and the Cougar 2. I am going to call their company tomorrow, and speak to a rep.

Thanks everyone for the help :D
