View Full Version : The OFFICIAL Britax Frontier Spoilers & Speculation thread (part 3)

I closed Part 2 early, because a hiccup was causing new posts not to show up in Hybrid Mode.
To keep the forum from being overwhelmed by multiple threads about the Britax harnessed/booster seat, all further chat on this seat should be confined to this thread. If/when it becomes overwhelmingly long, we'll lock it and start a new one.
I also want to remind everyone that much of what is posted here really is just speculation, and even "official" answers straight from the manufacturer are subject to change. It's fun to speculate about what the seat will be and to opine about the features we think the seat will have. However, until the seat actually hits shelves, we really are just guessing about its features. Rumors--even from trusted sources--can be, and often are, totally wrong.
No one knows for sure when this seat will hit shelves. It's even possible that Britax may scrap it altogether before it ever sees the light of day. No one can say for sure what vehicles it will fit in, how it will fit your child, what it will look like, how padded it will be, how comfortable it will be, how it will or won't adjust, or what kind of unexpected kinks it will still have when it is first released. We don't know how much it will cost or where it will be sold.
Please do NOT call Britax to ask them questions about this seat. Doing so serves only to irritate both you and the Customer Service Reps, because the CSRs don't know anything about it, but 100 million people keep asking them stupid questions about a product that literally doesn't even exist yet, and anything they do tell you is subject to change, which will tick you off when it's not exactly what you were told 6 months before the release.

What the? The Frontier is supposed to have 9 harness slot positions? But maxes out at 18.5". Ew, I hope someone realizes the error of their ways and raises that top slot position by at least an inch.

I think it was decided that the Frontier had 9 headrest positions, not harness heights. I would think that for a FF only seat from 25-80lb, it would have only 5 harness heights.

That would make sense, but looking at the picture of it, it is indicating lower than where the headrest would be.

I think it looks like 9 harness heights too- a sliding height adjust, but incremental instead of infinite.
Britax's website only lists the Regent as having 19.1" top slots (even if we've seen posters here get taller measurments). That's half an inch different than the Frontier specs. Like I said in the Frontier part 2 thread, I'd rather lose half an inch of harness height to be able to use it on a plane and fit in more vehicles (which I can only imagine will be the case)- not to mention use it as a booster when the harness is outgrown. Really, how many kids pushing the limits on the Regent are in a booster at least part time anyway? Of course, we'll have to see it in use, but the 18.5" top position doesn't bother me. If it has LATCH capabilities as a booster and the headrest doesn't suck, I'm going to really be considering this as our next seat.

personally i think it looks like the nautilus...its not really ugly but what are the top height slots for the radian. i can't see why they would make something smaller when the regent has been such a strong seller. If the harness slots are lower is the radian80 compareable to the height of the regent???

Wow, that is dumb :( It looks just like the Nautilus! What about all the ute covers? And a higher harness hight?

it must be an insider buzzword. Dave from SSK used it yesterday in chat. They decided on the Monterey dimensions by using anthropemetric data and average sizes.

I think so. Looks like U of Mich used it in relation to crash-test dummies in 1983: http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/dspace/handle/2027.42/259

I'm prettty sure it's a term who's origins lie in anthropology. It refers to measuring humans (obviously :p). Lots of anthropologists focus their whole careers on anthropometrics. I find it interesting. I'm curious if they hired an anthropologist for the job.

Now is the time to call and put in requests for colors, I did twice a few weeks ago and was told they would forward them on to the R&D dept. I asked for red and black (Like the Monarch) Hopefully they will do a good selection right up front, I sort of promised DS he would have red.. shouldn't have said anything I guess.. Anyway I guess if it takes much longer I will just buy the galaxy nautilus and use it as a spare when the frontier is out... Hoping for some info soon though, I hope they are on schedule..;)

Ok I haven't really been following the thread but I have to say that seeing that picture I'm disappointed.

I'd love for it to "go with" the convertable seats, if you know what I mean. Stylistically and with cover choices.
It may be silly.
Are any Britax people known to lurk here?

There's no doubt the Regent would offer at least an extra year of harnessing. Distressing it's said to be discontinued considering the increase in diagnosis of kids onthe Autism spectrum, etc. yet who may not get insurance coverage for a comparable special needs seat :( I'd mentioned to the rep that they figure out a dedicated combination seat (which this does indeed appear to be) but not at the expense of the Regent

I think we need to reserve that judgement until the Frontier is actually available and we can see how it fits children. Britax's measurements show just 0.6" difference. The discontinuation of the Regent is still just rumor and I've not heard anything regarding the Traveler Plus (which has the same size harness slots as the Regent). Yes, I know it is significantly more expensive, but if that half an inch is a true medical need, then insurance should cover the cost. Am I going to sound like a broken record if I say again that I'll willingly give up half an inch of harness height in the hopes of an FAA approved seat that fits in more vehicles and a booster with LATCH?
Synchro246
03-05-2008, 08:31 PM
And *IF* Britax makes the choice to discontinue the Regent in favor of the Frontier--with a .6'' lower harness slot it *might* have something to do with the design and the head excursion numbers that the Regent has. Maybe they tried making the FT have the same slots and it doesn't preform as well. Maybe Britax is heeding to the HWH neck loads stuff. Maybe next year Britax will work to redesign a dedicated HWH that preforms better (and installs more easily) than the Regent.
As much as the Regent is our sweetheart there's room for improvement and I welcome that in whatever (ugly) form it may be.

Honestly, I think Britax SHOULD discontinue the Regent. The new installation instructions are just killing their reputation for having seats that install easily in almost every car - that reputation is what has always made them worth the extra money for me. I'm willing to give up the extra top slot - I know there are kids that need it, but they aren't in the majority. Most kids are ready for a booster by the time they reach an 18" torso.
And I don't mean to sound like I don't care about the kids who need the extra height - Gypsy's DD is one of them and I love her! It just doesn't make sense for any company to put their efforts into a seat that's really only suitable for a minority of kids.

well said, sychro. Yes we recommend the Regent often and it has seen a great increase in popularity in the last two years. I think that's simply a product of the market and people use it because that's all there is. Beyond a few early adopters who have been here for years, EH is a relatively new phenomenon. Until now, harness height has trumped everything but the seat leaves a lot to be desired. If they're going to make a more usable seat that has what I perceive as comparable harness height, I'm all for it. Hopefully the GN and FT are only the start of a flood of new products that combine HWH, convenience and better design.

i dunno if the slot height on the new radians are 19.1" and this is 18.5" it could be a replacement. i wonder if britax thought the regent was to overbearing or large and tried to restyle it. maybe at that point they figured belt positioning booster would be a good bonus. i dunno maybe it will look better in a different color.
didn't the others take a bit longer to get girly covers??? maybe britax will get this one one

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not, but what's with the teeny armrests? The Evolva didn't have any (I so wish it was more like the Evolva). My kids are nowhere near booster age but doesn't it look like it will be a PITA for the child to buckle themselves in?

I don't love the looks of it either. I guess I expected to see something more like the Parkway, but with a harness. I also don't like the top slot height. 18.5" is good, but why make it lower than the Regent? I am a huge Britax lover, as is Alisha, but honestly, I'd probably choose a Nautilus over the Frontier at this point (not that we need a new seat). The Frontier would have to blow the Nautilus out of the water for me to really consider it, seeing as it's going to cost much more and it looks basically the same.

Hmmm, that in pink may be a nice option. But that booster bottom is so wide it looks like *I* could sit in it! Heck, if the booster top guide is more than 22" I probably can (and sometimes should).
I'm eager for it to come out.

I'd go with Nautilus if it weren't for other people reporting boys complainign about it hurting their "area". This is the only reason at all we're even looking for a new seat (we have a BLVD), so I'm going to wait and see how deep the seat on the frontier is.
I'd rather have teh Nautilus as I love the cup holder!!

I called Britax yesterday to see if they had any new photos and the lady said there is one floating around online she even said this website by name and said that it was in fact the frontier and that although there could still be some changes made, that is the one they showed off at the convention..So we'll see. I tried to add a comment about the harness adjuster hoping it would be an improvement from the MA, but when she transferred me to a survey line it never gave me the chance to comment..

does anyone have an idea on the harness weight limit speculated for this thread. that for me would be the deciding factor on whether i buy a regent now or weight for this and debate about it and the nautilus. any ideas anyone???

yes, 33-80 lbs harnessed and 100 lbs booster. For me that's not as a big deal as the height as most kids outgrow by height long before weight...

I want cute covers too! Something purple, preferably. Like the pink monach, just purple down the middle maybe? Or zebra! We loved our zebra cover:love:. I think zebra down the middle and black down the sides would be adorable ;).
Oh, and can you work on the shoulder pads a little bit? Something longer, like on the FPSVD or recaros. The ones on our marathon are essentialy useless.
This seat looks like it has potential! I don't like the price, but if its out by the September sale then maybe we can swing it (if dd lasts in her Marathon and triumph that long. not holding my breath)

Dear Britax,
I would love for the Frontier to have:
-The same (or taller) harness slots as the Regent to fit taller, skinnier kids
-Infinite harness adjuster (or at least one the can be changed without uninstalling the seat).
-Narrower than the Regent
-Easy to install like the Marathon/Boulevard.
-LATCHABLE in booster mode
-FAA approved
-Plush cover choices that would include a pink (or other girly colors), blue, green or red, or a pattern such as animal prints, all-star, barrington, madison etc.
Thank you!

um, no. It's about personal respect and stealing pictures. It's basic internet etiquette. I don't care if someone posts a picture of what they had for dinner last night or a scoops a much anticipated new seat. You don't save it to your account and post it as your own.

I Googled the EVOLVA 1-2-3 for fun today and I really liked the grey/mint green, and there is a 2 shade of pink one I'd go for too! I hope since the Frontier is designed to be similar to the EVOLVA then they will follow with some of the same color choices.........
I love both of those too! I have an obsession with green, so I'd buy a grey/green one in a hearbeat. I think it's a fun color, but still gender neutral. DD would flip for that purpley pink one.

Dear Britax,
Something pink, easy to use, FAA approved, and with padding in there for narrow tushies would be great. Oh, and where's the cupholder?? Please oh please oh please not the cupholder from the Parkway. That's not deep enough to hold a stick of gum.
Thank you!

I just wanted to clarify that although I posted the color change of Crunchier's photo, I did pm her as I was posting it (and admitted to her that I should have asked first) she was not upset with me she was glad I gave her credit for the photo, she was just commenting about others who post photos but not mention who took the photo, so it makes it appear as their own.
Looking at the other side...I think when others post other peoples photos they don't do it as an intentional thing like stealing or taking credit for.., I think they just use the photo as a reference to something someone was looking for or wanted to discuss.. Anyway it's probably best that we all including me (;)) respect each other's rights and give credit where credit it due, even if the photo is just used to explain something... It is also not a bad idea to watermark your photos, I also told crunchier I could do this for her if she wanted me to..
OK now that all that is said can we please get back to the topic of frontier...;) And Britax will you just hurry up already and get this seat done so we can stop all this speculation :)

What the? The Frontier is supposed to have 9 harness slot positions? But maxes out at 18.5". Ew, I hope someone realizes the error of their ways and raises that top slot position by at least an inch.
This is unrelated to this thread, but forgive me....
I noticed you have a Marathon Olivia; Do you live the pattern? Is the pink a hot pink or peachy pink? I found one one the net for cheap, but the pic looks really orangy, yours doesn't. Thanks for the info!

How wide do you think it is? Do you think it would work in the front middle of an F150? We need to do 3 across. I am thinking of this seat for DS. He currently using his Touriva FF in the truck, which is only a weekend vehicle for the most part.

There aren't any specs listed but, is this what it is supposed to look like??
I was if they had an advance on the release date... the site says that it is out of stock and I know that it is not due to be released yet, I just could have sworn that when I was on this site yesterday it was a blank spot where the pic is now!!
Hopefully it will be there soon as I have to replace 3 seats soon and would be overjoyed to be able to keep using Britax.

That looks a heck of a lot better than the other picture that's available. I could see it being a decent seat, but it still doesn't seem to have much (if anything) the Nautilus doesn't, I DO think I see a cup holder on the side though.

Now if only they could release it this weekend so that I could avoid having to go out and buy a seat to get us through until this one is out!
My dd would LOVE the girly print, she has never had anything but black or blue for a seat color and I told her that we would try this time.
Does anyone know which manufacturers might be at the Baby Expo in Boston area in a few weeks, I know that Britax is supposed to be there, I was hoping that they might have the seat to at least look at, even if it isn't yet ready to sell.
Here's hoping!

does it look incredibly shallow to anyone else? If that slit in front of the belly pad is to adjust the crotch buckle, there's almost no thigh support.

I thought the exact same thing. My (almost) 7YO is small but quite leggy, so I'd have to have him try this out in person before purchasing. Oh wait ... I don't need one ... DS has a Regent, which we love. Will most likely try him out in it anyway at some point. IF I like this seat, I wouldn't mind selling the Regent and purchasing a Frontier, which could be handed down to DD and wouldn't expire until she's 8.5.

well after looking at that photo. it seems to me that the frontier will seal the end of the regent. since they have the same weight harnessed and almost the same style and the same price. I think that it will be the end to the regent manufacturing. i'm thinkning britax will discontinue the regent and the decathalon by the end of 2008.
though i can say who hoo to the pink and the fact the sides change color may not be that bad. i mean it may look nicer longer since they aren't siiting on a pink seat. it does look to have a cupholder on the side though which would be nice. my kids don't get drinks in my car but would be nice to have the option.
my only question is what is thedeal with the giant red plastic under the armrest. i understand its need for booster mode but why not black instead of red. i think a pink and black seat with these giant red things might be pretty ugly looking.

Why don't I see it on Right Start- is it gone? I did see the one close up through the link someone posted, thanks! It doesn't look very exciting IMO. I'll be curious how kids fit in it compared to the Nautilus though. If it is just as narrow, and not as deep, I don't see why they'd discontinue the Regent. If it doesn't have anything the Nautilus doesn't, no way I'd spend double for it. Especially because I LOVE the harness adjustment and buckles on the Nautilus. My dd can easily get herself in and out. My curiousity is def peaked though, and I can't wait to get official specs and reviews on the Frontier. And if they are really starting with 4 colors instead of just brown and gray- smart move Britax!

I might consider it if it has built in lock-offs and LATCH in booster mode. It is also rumored to have a sliding harness height adjust. Of course, I'm still awhile from needing a new seat. Maybe there will be something even better yet. :)

I notice the description says 25-80 pounds harnessed *with tether*
does that mean the seat *has* to be tethered?
I know so many poeple who dont have tether anchors and who arent going to get them just to tether a HWH seat that they dont really want in the first place..... I HATE that. I mean, I *might* be able to talk people into a seat, if ALL they have to do is buy it..but then have to retrofit their vehicle? NOPE. nuh-uh. No way. I feel it really limits my options in terms of recommending it. I have to talk them into plunking down $300, THEN into having anchors installed?
I don't have anchors. Our old conversion van isn't retrofittable. (is that a word?)

Is that one with a back seat? if so there are 3 tether anchors, one behind each seat -- read the owners manual for tethering instructions, it's not as simple as most tethers.
If there is no back seat, there will be a tether anchor behind the passenger seat.

I looked at some images and saw the webbed loops at the top of the back seat. You TA'sshould be in the webbed loops. Also you will have to tether a little differently in this truck. It is like my Ram. Outboard positions you run the Tether strap through the webbing of the TA in the seating location and then actually hook it to the center TA. YOu can have 2 tethers attach to the same TA in my Ram I am sure it is the same for yout Ford. For the center position to attach the tether strap you run through the webbed loop to an outboard position. This could be different, but most truck are like this. check your manual.

I think the F350s are actually exempt (due to their weight?), that's why it doesn't have LATCH. Some of them put it in anyway, but they're not required to the way they are with other vehicles.

Why can't they use a Nautilus or Apex or Radian, then? And why should carseat manufacturers keep having to design seats to fit in cars that are 9+ years old? You aren't alone, by the way, you should have seeen the poor Safeguard people eat it at Lifesavers for daring to invent the Go...but, crap, progress marches on, boosters aren't unsafe, not all seats fit in all cars, and tether anchor retrofitting is usually free...so is it really such a big deal? And besides, they aren't actually allowed to mandate tether use till 50 (actually probably 65 pounds, now that FMVSS 213 covers up to that weight), so I really wouldn't get too upset by one retailer's site.

My biggest question is if the crotch straps give boys more room then the Nautilus? There have been so many complaints about the strap and I think ds will run into that issue when we are ready to get this. I do wish the price was a little less but hopefully it is on sale at the next Britax sale.

Everytime I see the flyer I chuckle to myself that they thought to use the word "Anthropometrically". I'd love to see their anthropometric research. I really would.
it must be an insider buzzword. Dave from SSK used it yesterday in chat. They decided on the Monterey dimensions by using anthropemetric data and average sizes.
I'm prettty sure it's a term who's origins lie in anthropology. It refers to measuring humans (obviously :p). Lots of anthropologists focus their whole careers on anthropometrics. I find it interesting. I'm curious if they hired an anthropologist for the job.
 Maybe I could work for Britax one day
i'm coming into this thread pretty late, but i don't find it unusual that they use this term. this is very important. it's not just a buzzword, it's used in most industries where products have to be designed to hold and support the human body, which comes in all shapes and sizes. it's used in the car industry, the furniture industry, and now finally carseat makers are taking this important aspect into consideration in their designs (recaro made a big point about this years ago :p). the term itself (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthropometry#History) dates back a long time.

Dear Britax, I honestly am not picky about covers and hope the seat will have tall top harness slots to accommodate kids who would otherwise need a Regent to remain harnessed. And please don't delay the seat indefinitely. Thanks for lurking/listening. :)
Dear Britax,
I don't care what colors or patterns it comes in; if I can't install it without a degree in engineering and a firefighter, I don't want it!
exactly!!! just make it easy to install correctly (and match my car's interior ;))!!! who cares about pink, or animals, or footballs! if i wanted those in my car i'd just bring some of my DD's stuffed animals into the car

Dodge is good about having them even when not required. The Dodge Ram MEGA cab actually has 3 full sets of LATCH in the rear seat. That is why we like Dodge :D.
According to the LATCH manual, the F350 had LATCH through 2005.

The only problem with this is, the larger minivans don't always have TAs in all seating positions, right? Especially the newer models... IIRC, someone said the testing procedure changed, leading most manufacturers to actually reduce the number of TAs in their minivans. So if a seat requires a tether, you've reduced the ability to use that seat in some vehicles.
Personally, I'd rather see manufacturers required to provide TAs for all rear seating positions, but that's not likely to happen anytime soon.

Yeah, the government is way too lax on car makers by allowing only three TA's... if they became law, then cars probably would have them in more positions. But the carseat companies can't be expected to design every seat for every car, to meet the failings of the car or government...maybe the tail will wag the dog? Better seats will beget better cars? We can hope.

I think it's worth noting that Britax lists the top slots on the Regent as 19.1. So if the Frontier has top slots of 18.25 (per the other posts), then it's a difference of .85", not the 1.75" it would be if you're using 20" as the top slot measurement for the Regent.

I have $299 CAD as the price for Canada. Not bad as it is close enough to the US price.
I'm really happy to see the closer crotch buckle positions. DD has a tiny bum and way too much room to slide forward in the smallest Regent position for my comfort level. Also  for 40lb. minimum for booster mode.
Does anyone know if it's FAA approved and whether it will LATCH in booster mode?

-Product Dimensions W x H x D 19.5 x 22 x 26.5
Harnessed ,headrest extended 19.5 x 27.75 x 27
Booster 19.5 x 22 x 20
Booster, headrest extended 19.5 x 25.25 x 20

Seating Compartment Height 21.5"

Harness Slot Heights 12.25" / 13.1" / 14" / 14.9" / 15.75" /
16.5" / 17.4" / 18.25"
Buckle Strap Depth 5" / 6.5"/ 8.25"
ok i'm so likeing this seat now!! mostly because i had concerns of it being too narrow in shoulders AND seat depth like the NA. i love the roomyness of regent. compared to regent stats on their site:
Product Weight (lbs) 25
Exterior Product W x H x D (in) 21.5 x 30 x 25
Seating Compartment Height (in) 27.75
Seat Area Depth/Width (in) 11.75 / 12
Shoulder Width (in) 15
Harness Slot Heights (in) 12 / 14.4 / 16.75 / 19.1
Buckle Strap Depth (in) 7.4 / 9.4
so the FRONTIER is looking REALLY good for those broad shouldered/long legged kids!!! YAY!! i can deal with a shorter harness height. my kids dont' need it. too abd i can't buy another seat. but i'm more than anxious just to test it out with my children. COOL! very COOL!

Thank you for posting this list of dimensions! Where did this information come from (sorry if I missed the reference)? If width is 19.5", I think that is narrower than the numbers that were mentioned in one of the earlier Frontier speculation threads. It would be 2" less than the maximum width of the Regent, and might make it possible to consider this seat for 3-across installations. The photos of the Frontier make it look like it has more curvature down near the bottom (as opposed to the Nautilus, which has a large volume at the bottom with exactly the same width everywhere -- because of its large, straight-up-and-down armrests). It might make the Frontier a bit easier than the Nautilus to puzzle next to some other seats -- at least some chance of gaining a little space through overlap.

Okay, I read all 7 pages. Is there another thread I missed somewhere or was this everything? I'm mostly a lurker :) .
Anyway...
1. I agree that neutral does NOT equal BOY. I would LOVE a very BOY seat for my little boy  . Since almost every seat out there comes in some form of pink, I think there should be a blue counterpart for the boys :) .
2. Saddly (and yet happily) I won't need a new seat until the middle of next year at the soonest. (We still have 2.5" or 8 pounds until he has to FF in his FPSVD; new baby will use our SS1 for a good year - then we'll move baby to RF in the FPSVD and get DS a new seat... we just have no excuse to buy a new seat before the SS1 is outgrown.) I'm keeping my eyes open now though just so I have an idea of what is out there when we do need it.
3. The Regent does look much more roomy and just overall comfy for kids. Is it almost certain that it will be phased out?
Okay... now I should go research why LATCH in booster mode is such a big thing (is it anything beyond convience - not having to buckle in a loose booster?). That may play a role in our choice.
My overall impression is that I like the GN better (though our walmart still doesn't have it for me to see in person; sheesh they still have an old Triumph as the floor model but sell the EFTA, though I haven't even seen boxes of those there in months...). I'm just not certain the Frontier is worth almost twice as much.
Thanks for all the info!
Edit siggy to say Athan is now still RF at 19mo :) .

Wow, I guess I'm just lucky. Always been a big Britax person. Have two girls and one just moving into the combo. Between my wife and me we have 3 combos - 2 Blvard and a Roundbt. She got it made with 2. My fingers are losing skin from adjusting with the knob from a 3 year old to a 1 year old. Took a look at the website today and the Frontier was listed. Are your three year old and one year old both rear facing? Or both forward facing? Your one year old should be rear facing. So you're uninstalling the seat constantly? Bandaids until April sounds like a good idea. :-) I like the idea of the one pull headrest rather than the knob. Luckily we don't need to do the knob too much on Piper's Wizards. They're cranked all the way up now.
And just being pedantic, but a combo seat is like the Frontier. A seat that is forward facing only with a harness and then converts to a booster. A convertible seat is what you have. The Boulevards and Roundabout.

OK now I may be upset, when I first seen this seat I did not like it, too mych like the GN. But what I really don't like about it is the arm rest (dd would love them) besides that I kinda like it now. And now I see it has other colors (like pink) I'm really leaning towards it. I don't sea a belt path but it does seem more upright than the Regent. This is not good for me.

:yeahthat: I am picky about covers, but my "pickiness" is that I like fairly plain covers that match the interior of my car. :)
I would like higher harness slots than 18.5", though. That just won't work for super-tall kids.

Is it the KDM Foundation/HipMonkey.com?
I can't wait until people actually get a chance to install this new seat. It has GOT to be easier/less complicated than the Regent. (Which, as I know I've said before, I love ... )

My guess would be it's not quite like the GN but more like a soft breathable mesh ... Actually after just looking again at the Monarch it looks like they used the same center fabric, if anyone knows what that is, what it feels like and it's quality..maybe we can figure this out..;)

I have not read this whole thread so maybe someone has already mentioned this but the specs on the "Safe and Secure baby" website (sorry I don't know how to post the websites address in here) list the top harness height at 18.25". My ds only has a 15" torso so he will get a lot of use out of the harness, but I know that most were hoping for higher harness height.

It's ok here too, my son is about 16" torso, but it really takes a while for that part to grow, I figure my son is 4 1/2 if I get 1 1/2 yrs more harness time he will be 6 and then I will be ok to boost him..;) It's still very worth it to me:thumbsup:

I have a tall and skinny little boy (well, he's almost 10 now, but he's always been tall and skinny).
Regardless, moving the buckle forward changes the crash dynamics of the seat. I just started a thread (http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=39906) to discuss this.
Also, "penis" is not a bad word. You can use it on this site.

I'm getting the Monterey (pink) for dd, it has a red/black pattern too & I like it MUCH more than the Monarch.
I'm considering the Frontier for ds, but won't order until the Sept sale when there have been tons of reviews & pictures and all of the "problems" and "complaints" will be known by then.

That was* my plan, too. I'll let someone else find all the little flaws with the Frontier before I shell out any money for it.
*I realized recently that my second Marathon expires Nov 2009, not 2008 like I had thought, so I probably won't be buying anything until next September's sale now.

Has anyone heard if BRU is expected to carry the Frontier? I'm hoping they will, because of the try-before-you-buy opportunity. On the other hand, they didn't stock the Regent until fairly recently, so I guess it's not a given that they will carry this new seat.....??

I may ask her that, but I think that's how it works.. I know she has already ordered several of each color so it's not like a special order..I just emailed her to ask for sure though...

Well, dd looked at the pictures and promptly said YUCK! so I am glad we got her the Regent.
It will be between this and the Nautilis for DS though when the baby takes over his Marathon. We should have at least 18 months for that though, so plenty of time for reviews, bugs to be worked out etc... (on both seats!) I do wish it had a cup holder or at least the mesh pockets like the Regent though, DD loves those and I can see it being a problem in the future if DS doesn't have something.
I do like the red though. I hope the wings aren't to confining and I can not wait to see pictures with kids in it!

I don't like that it weighs 25 pounds and we have no confirmation one way or the other on LATCH in booster mode, do we?
I do like the armrests, though, doesn't it look like they flip up? I love that feature of the B510, and I think it's pretty much the only redeeming feature of the Evenflo Big Kid. :p

It's somewhat similar to the Monarch's design, isn't it? The belt fit dd okay in the Monarch. What concerns me most is using it in booster mode if it does not utilize lower anchors or a top tether, since it weighs a whopping 25 pounds.

more info on goore's blog (http://gooresblog.blogspot.com/2008/03/britax-frontier-we-finally-have.html)
notably:
You must secure the top tether when using the seat with the 5 pt harness
and
In my opinion this seat will end up replacing the Britax Regent which is enormous and does not easily fit in many cars. It will also take over the Britax Monarch sales as people will not need to purchase a booster seat if they already purchased the Britax Frontier.

Thanks! And Britax measures the Regent at 19.1. So, I'm thinking that the lack of a recline bar will actually even them out since the recline takes some growning room away and they may be outgrown at the same time, KWIM? I just received this via email from Christine at hipmonkey...HTH;)
the lowest price we are allowed to sell the seat for is set by Britax (and this is true of all their seats) which is what I have the Frontier listed at right now. I really don't see the price changing unless Britax themselves changes the MSRP which I highly doubt they will do since they have already sent out order forms with the MSRP listed at 279.99. :)
