Hi, after DH bought his new car, I have now begun driving the 1999 Toyota Camry LE daily. I would need a top tether anchor installed and would like the part # to have for reference. help appreciated!I know Morganthe had this done with her '99 Camry- center, that is what I am hoping to have done. TIA!!!!!!

It's Toyota part number 73709-12010, called a "bracket sub-assembly, tether anchor," and retailing for approx. $12. The kit includes an 8mm bolt, anchor bracket, and spacer. The owner's manual has details about the anchor point locations in the car. There's also this note about the '99 Camry in the LATCH manual: "MY-99 Camry owner's manual states that the dealer must do a modification on the filler panel to be able to do an outboard Tether Anchor." Sounds like it could be a DIY project for the middle rear position, but outboard is more complicated and would involve some work by the dealership. Hope this helps. :)

Thank you Jeanum!!!:) Yup, center is the best spot for us anyway. Does the dealership order the part?

They should order the part, and be prepared for a very high price tag for installation..I've known of people spending a couple hundred dollars for it (and it was ugly! Big square hole with the anchor in it). Crossing Fingers for you to get it cheaper!!!

Yup, the service/parts dept. at the Toyota dealer should be able to acquire the part for you, or you might try googling the part number to see if you can find an online source. I know we found a lower priced Honda tether anchor part source online recently for another poster by googling the Honda number. There might be a similar Toyota part source.

Thanks- I think we will go the route Jeanum suggested unless it looks like it's too complicated.

Bumping this up again for Yoshiandluke. :) Check out this post over in the News/Media forum: http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=37697 This would be a way to save on the cost of retrofitting in your Camry.

oh yeah, please check that out. I posted it, but that's all the info I have. :o I'd love to hear someone's experience with it. I was trying to think of someone I knew who drove an older Toyota so I could do it, but my mom's 2000 Corolla has anchors.
