We currently have 3 infant car seats (twins on the way, 10 mo old now) and tried fitting them in our Honda Accord. They fit, but is this legal? Someone said there has to be a barrier in front of the middle seat? In 2 mo one of them will have to switch to a convertible. Can we still do it then?
Or, do we need to buy another vehicle? Are there any cars (sedans) that do fit 3, or must we go to a minivan or van?
Thanks for any help.

You can have all 3 seats installed if you can fit them as long as they are independantly installed :) To the best of my knowledge there is nothing illegal about having 3 infant seats installed in the same seat. I am not sure where you heard that  There is no need to buy a new vehicle.
Congrats on the twins

That is perfectly legal and safe....as long as they are all installed independantly of each other. However, to save you some money, I would use your older child's infant seat for one of the twins and get the 10 month old a convertible now. Your 10 month old should remain rearfacing until she hits the weight limit of the convertible, somewhere between 30 and 35 pounds. A sunshine kids radian ($200, 33 pound rfing weight) rfing in the middle might be a good solution for you, since it is narrow. A cosco scenera ($40, 35 pound rfing weight) might work well for you, too.

Thanks for your both of your help! Hey, if we don't need to buy a car, we can certainly afford new car seats!
Why is it that the Radian seems to be recommended so much for convertible car seats? Is it the narrowest?
And, yes, the person who told me a barrier was needed was.... a car salesman!
Thanks!

YW, Nicole :D! Yes, the Radian is the narrowest seat. The base is 13 inches and the widest spot is across where the shoulders go. That is 17inches.

The Radian is the narrowest and is the easiest to fit three across. I have done 3 across in my Honda Accord but they have all been forward facing. I think with needing to have all of your seats rf then 3 Radians (when you need them) is the way to go. The Radian can be a little tricky to install at first but once you get the hang of it, it isn't a problem.
Here is a picture of my 3 across in a '96 Accord, they are all ff:
