My daughter will be three the 22nd of next month. She is just over 41" tall and weighs 44.5 lbs. She is in a Britax Regent which is installed in a Ford Escape.

I had to move the seat when we rode with another family and when I tried to re-install it in my vehicle again I discovered that I was at a loss. She was over the weight for the way it had previously been installed so I needed to install it properly for her current weight. But the instructions are so confusing to me. I remember that the people who installed it for me originally (a police officer plus the ladies at the health department) were very confused as well. They had never seen one before and didn't seem entirely sure that they had done it correctly. So I am at a loss as to who to turn to for help.

If I could find some photos of the correct installation and/or some step by step instructions (beyond what the manual gives - the manual makes me feel like I am reading another language) it would be really helpful.

You need to install using the short beltpath for your DD. You don't go over the sides for this. You only go through the back.

Go to the Britax website.

http://www.britaxusa.com/

Click on "Installation videos" at the bottom of the page.

Then Click the drop down box under the big video screen box.

Scroll down to Regent/Youth Harnessed seats, and see the list of installation options under it. Click the one you need.

You can watch a woman put the seat in and she'll show you the proper belt route.

Thanks ladies! I actually have it installed like the first photo (the belt just going through the back of the seat, kind of like a regular car seat) but I thought that was wrong. At what weight and height will I need to do the other install?

And I am confused because some of the photos I have seen online have the shoulder belt coming down on the inside front of the seat (when they did the long path). The photo above does not have that.

And what about the safety bar? Is it true that it now has to be used with all types of installs?

Thanks for the video link. I looked on their site for help but did not see that! :)

It's a recline bar. It is supposed to cut down on head excursion somehow.

It is required for all models after 6/17/07 and optional for those before.

The long belt path (where you see the seatbelt going over the outside of the seat and overt the cover) is for kids up to 40 lbs.

After that, you have to do the short belt path, where the belt path is hidden behind the seat.
