When used in the RF mode do you use both lock offs? Only one?
The manual doesn't specifically state to use only one or to use both. It in my opinion contradicts itself on the issue.

So when you do installs what do you do?

What is your opinion?

I did find on the website FAQ's to they recommend you use the one furtherest from where the belt is buckled.. But it doesn't not state if it is unsafe to use the other one at the same time also. and it does not state that you should only use that one.

make sense? What are your thoughts?

of course is a BLVD DOM is Nov 2007.

I lock my seatbelt, but still use both lockoffs. Not because I need them, but becasue I don't want them to get broken if I leave them open or rought the belt over them.

The manual (at least mine and the one online) states to always close the lock off when not in use to avoid breakage to them.

So it does say that. Hmm..but does that mean we should have routed the belt OVER the lock off?

I want to explain the install today:

Boulvard center rear-facing using lap belt with lightweight locking latchplate.

The manual imo was not clear regarding the rear-facing lockoffs. Which lockoffs should have been used? Both? The only one closest to the buckle?

Melissa,
Yeah it does say that. But it doesnt say ONLY use the one furtherest from where the belt is buckled? KWIM? To me it is like they are telling you if you are going to use it make sure you use that one.

It IMO is not clear at all! I am calling them tomorrow also but hoping others will chime in.

If it said only I would for sure go out there and install it over the LO.

Britax allows none, one or both to be used even with the seatbelt locked. The recommend the one closest to the bucle be use if you have to rely on it to keep your seat secured. I called them about this a year or so ago.

Thank you Lisa,

Ok so if we used the lock off closest to the buckle and closed it off, what would we do with the farthest lock off then? Leave it closed and route the buckle OVER, or open it and use it? Does it matter? Allie's husband wanted me to lock off both, but I wasn't sure since the manual wasn't clear.

I open it and use it, but do not rely on it to secure the seat. Britax allows both to be used ;). The reason I do not go over is I feel that if that lockoff breaks loose then my seat is going to become loose by at least an inch KWIM? If you leave it open it is even more likely to get broken.

Yes, I agree about going OVER it, but what kind of impact does having both lock offs closed have? Will this affect the performance of the seat? Is it in anyway the same concept of having both the seatbelt and Latch used when installing a seat?

I was just worried about closing both lock offs. I was worried they both wouldn't break open properly in the event of the accident. That's why I only closed one of her lockoffs.

ETA: This is all moot because you said Britax allows you to close both lockoffs LOL!

No, not the same as using Lower Anchors and Seat belt together.

My seats are first secured with the seatbelt then I close the lock offs. I do not feel by closing them it affects my seat in any way.

I do not think they are supposed to break open in an accident. If they are then your seat would come loose to if you rely on that to keep your seat secure. That would not be good. I under stand they could break in an accident. That would be even more reason for me to use both. :twocents:

Thanks Lisa :D

I left Allie's carseat install scratching my head LOL! It bothered me that the manual is not very clear.

:) Melissa I think you did a great job! Im hope your pizza was not to cold when you got to eat it! My DH said that we were rude for keeping you from it! i just got lost in installing :) So sorry if it was ice!

I do have the other lock off (the one you left open) closed in use. I was going to go with it like that until I got answers from here and called Britax. I think we had a perfect install before either lock off so in that case I am going to use it. I will make sure if it gets un-installed to make sure its installed right before using.

BTW I totally forgot to have you tell my DH about getting the 2nd car seat :)

Thanks for the info Lisa.
