View Full Version : Graco Platinum Cargo Install -- Forward slip?

I just installed my dh's (extra) Graco Platinum Cargo for dd2 (while waiting for the Graco nautilus to come back in stock).
It's in solid, no lateral movement at all (rear tethered) in the back driver outboard seat in the third row of a 07 Odyssey.
But when I pull to tighten the harness, it seems like there's a little bit of forward slippage on the (leather) seat.
What to do?

does it move more than an inch?? if it is an otherwise solid install i wonder if it would be ok to use shelf liner under it.. that might help. i bet a tech will chime in.

You are right to ask - the carseat needs to have less than 1" of movement:
1) side-to-side, when checked with a hand at the beltpath
2) front-to-back, when checked with a hand at the beltpath,
and
3) before you add the top-tether.
So, pulling it forward by the harness adjuster doesn't count, but I'm guessing if you can pull it forward that way, you can probably get the same movement by pulling it at the beltpath, too.
If it's less than inch of movement, though, it's fine. It sounds like you may need to remove the top-tether and check for movement without that, too, though.
If it's more than an inch, it's usually pretty easy to fix. Just pull the harness adjuster so the seat slips forward, and then leave it there in that position while you re-install. After you re-install it that way, the front-to-back movement should stop.

Thanks! Will check back later if I have questions.
What is the "wisdom" concerning using shelf liner on leather seats?

If you need it, you shouldn't use it, basically ;)

Plus the shelf liner can mess up your leather seats in the heat.

I've heard it melts.

Eeewwww.
No melting on my leather seats thankyouverymuch.
Didn't get a chance to re-install yet. I'm also trying to figure out a better configuration in my car given my carpool (I take another 4 year old to school in the a.m.).
