I am borrowing a Chevy Blazer from a friend while my car is in the shop. However, I'm not sure what year it is (no manual) and i don't see any tether anchors. If they were there, where would i look?
If there are no tether anchors i won't be able to use my 86 Y harness with booster. Will it be okay to have a not quite for year old in a booster with just the 3 point belt? It will only be a few times and for short trips. I don't have another seat that he would fit in. The car has a center lap belt only seat belt that doesn't lock if you pull it all the way out and retract if that helps determine the year of it.
Thanks for any help.

In the LATCH manual it says:
Blazer 01-05
TA's are the cargo tie downs nearest to the seat, not the ones at the liftgate. Owners manual states not to put CR in center postion in a 2001-early 2003. Later 2003 says CR is fine in the center position.
No, it would not be good to put your child in a seatbelt.

If this is a S-10 Blazer, you cannot use the center lap only belt. It is not allowed (per the manual). In my 97 Blazer, I had to use the tether anchors in the floor of the cargo area, closest to the back. In some models though, you would use the ones immediately behind the back seat. The LATCH manual does not have info for vehicles older than 01, but the tether anchors are in the cargo area, knowing which ones to use are the key. Are the headlights square is or sunken in? If so, it's a 98 or older, but if they're two narrow rectangles "stacked" then it's newer than 98. I had a 97 that had the square-ish headlights and I had to use the anchors closest to the back hatch. HTH.

First I have to say, that you guys are awesome. This helps a lot!! They are the rectangle headlights so it is newer than 98.
So to clarify, I use the cargo hooks closest to the backseat (I saw these earlier)? I can then obviously only use the outboard positions as these are where they are located, right? Plus I don't think I can use that center seatbelt style with the 86-Y even though i think the Fisher Price booster would fit in between those buckle stalks.
One last question, those tether anchors are rated to 48 pounds??

You are correct that you can use the cargo tie downs closest to the back seat. You can also use outboard for your Y 86. Now the bummer, shevy only rates the TA's to 40 lbs :(. This (http://www.saferidenews.com/pdfs/pg_126_max_wt_07.pdf) is where I got the tether anchor info.

Now how is it that they are rated to 48 when LATCH is used but only to 40 with the seatbelt. Also using the harness there isn't the extra weight of the seat to be factored in. I'm thinking since he fluctuates between 40-41 pounds that we should be ok. Do you agree? I think that it is better than just putting him in a lap/shoulder belt with the booster.

They probably had better crash test results with the lower anchor install than the seatbelt install with top tether. They do not factor in the weight of the car seat when deciding on the weight limits. As a tech I cannot tell you it is ok to go against the vehicle owners manual. That wll have to be a desion you make. Sorry :(
Of course a 5 point harness will always be better than a seatbelt. Although you may have to use a booster with the seatbelt for ths circumstance because it is the safer of the two options since your DS is over the 40 lbs weight limit for the TA. :twocents:
