My nanny drives a 96 Accord. I have looked all over for a top tether anchor spot and can not find one - is this car too old to have a top tether anchor?

I believe you would need to get the kit and have one installed as they don't have it in already. HTH

My '96 Toyota (different brand, I know, but a Japanese car of the same vintage) did not have tether anchors installed, but it does have the weld nuts in place (3 positions), and the owner's manual has instructions on how to find the nuts and how to install the anchors. I believe many vehicles of that vintage have the weld nuts in place, since the same models sold in Canada were already required to have tether anchors at that time.

My '96 Accord did not have tether anchors but had pre-drilled holes. They are on the back dash and are covered by little plastic caps (that just pop out) the same colour as the back dash. There should be a hole for all 3 seating positions.

If you/your nanny wish to have the car retrofitted with a top tether anchor, the Honda part number is 82410-SE3-C01, called a "plate assembly," and retails for about $13 per anchor from a Honda dealership (or probably less online if you google the part number). The installation instructions are in the vehicle owner's manual, not with the retrofit part, and the '96 Accord has three 8mm weld nuts in the rear filler panel (this info. is plucked out of my LATCH manual). Honda doesn't retrofit vehicles for free but it's probably a do-it-yourself task with a torque wrench once you obtain the retrofit part. Hope this helps. :).

You're very welcome. I owe it all to the LATCH manual. :)
