I am wondering because in my area, our hospital refers people for carseat inspections/installs to a particular fire department. The man there, who is a CPST, is misinformed and is giving out improper information. I.E. he told me that all carseats are required to have their handles down while in motion in the vehicle, he never told me that the prince lionhart car seat protector pad was a big no-no, and he ok'd my infant seat with bundle-me lite (before I was aware of this site ;).)

So, once you become a CPST, are you required to keep up? Does it vary from state to state? Can you become a tech from different organizations that require different things?

TIA!

Every 2 years we need 6 CEU's. There are tons of ways to get them, and it depends on how you go about them. It can be online seminars, to in person seminars, to reading articles. It really varies.

:yeahthat:

Often a particular state will have a recert event for police/fire/emt techs where they can get all of their CEUs at once. It's supposedly to make it easier to get the CEUs, but I have my doubts how much people actually pay attention.

Yes, they are required. Everyone is supposed to loww the SK cirriculum, but some do not stay up to date. There are not different rules for different people.

You can read more about CEU's for recertification here (http://www.safekids.org/certification/recertification07.html) and here (http://www.carseatsite.com/ceu.htm).
