I just called and they have the Evenflo Triumph for $149. Is the one that is good (comparable to the Marathon?) She said there is no model number or anything after the Triumph.

It sounds like this is the old triumph w/40lb weight limit, shorter shell and slots, and not the infinite adjust harness. If you call back & ask if there are red tabs on the front of the seat at the top of the straps and the straps slide up & down, then you'll know for sure if it's the triumph advance or the old one. :)

(The new one has the red tabs and sliding adjustment.)

So I called back and she says it doesnt say advance anywhere but she says it is brand new to Sears and has the red sliding tabs. Ill go check it out - do you have a picture or something I can compare it to?

Here are 3 pictures from their US web-site. I wonder which pattern(s) Sears will get?

Premier - Hampton pattern

Deluxe - Sandbox pattern

LX - Raven pattern

I think I like the Raven for my DS - not that I'll be getting one! (Unless it has the 35 lb RF limit in Canada)

thanks - Ill compare these to the sears one tonight. I noticed on the US site they have Triumph Advance Premier, Deluxe and LX models. Which one of these is the CDN one supposed to compare to? The LX and deluxe seem to be exactly the same, and the premier model seems a bit different.

They're all the exact same seat, just different levels of padding & cup holders & that kind of thing. I wouldn't be surprised to see a mix show up in Canada too, but you never know.

One way to tell for sure is to check the stickers on the seat. I think the CDN version will have a ff'ing weight limit of 47lbs. But if it has the harness on a tall sliding slot, then it's the new one. Another way to tell is that the knob accents will be red. The old one had yellow.

I'm hoping for sandbox, but the gray ones would look really nice in my truck. LOL.

Success! I now have an Evenflo Triumph Advance LX. My local Sears (Guelph, Ontario) got 4 in yesterday. It looks just like the LX model on the US site except the colours are darker. This is the only option they had at this Sears. Manufactured Dec 27 2007 and good till Dec 2013. Good to 30lbs and 1" below the top of seat back rear facing and 47lbs and 50" forward facing.

It is $149.99 at Sears and she told me it was onsale this weekend for $134.99 and I can go back on Sat with receipt to get the $15 if I want.

Thanks to all for your help. Snowbird - I cant edit the first post as I wasnt logged in. Can you change the title to reflect that it is the advance model now available?

Thanks

:D Up to 1.5 years longer :D

I see they recognized that my child outgrew their seat (old Triumph) at 3.5 years old. :ROTFLMAO:

Wow it really is darker than the LX sold in the US.

But only 30 lb RF :crying: :crying: :crying:. Now I won't be able to buy it, even if it would fit better than the Radian does RF in our Jeep. It's just not worth it with DS growing the way he is.

Success! Good to 30lbs and 1" below the top of seat back rear facing and 47lbs and 50" forward facing.

So I guess this does not have the ridiculously low rf height limit of 32" then?

Thanks.

Yay! The titan deluxe doesn't have a numeric rf'ing height limit on it either, but it's kind of a moot point considering the short seatback on it.

I really like that cover, and wish my local sears had it since it's on sale right now. Nice to see it's coming in at the same price as what the old one was though. And that also means our price is nearly the same as the US pricing. :)

I am going to see if I can snag one and line up next to the Marathon for pictures. Hmmm, have to find a Radian to 'borrow' for the picture shoot too, lol.

How short is the seatback? I thought I read somewhere that top harness level was measured around 16.5" but didn't find anything about how high/low the top of the seat is.

This is correct. Truthfully, as a non car seat techie, I found most manufacturers descriptions of requirements a bit confusing, but this manual lays out it out very nicely.

Here is what it says:

Rear Facing Only
5 - 20lbs
AND
at least 19"
AND
Top of head is at least 1" below the top of the child restraint seat back
AND
less then one year of age

Rear or Forward Facing
20-30lbs
AND
at least one year of age

Forward Facing Only
30-47 lbs
AND
less then 50"
AND
at least one year of age

Really??? Only ff at 30 lbs and up? Not the usual 20 lbs?

Wow!

yay, still hope DS2 lasts till spring in the carrier, his last growth surt scared me, because this seat wasn't out, but i'm more comfortable now.

So why does the sticker on the carseat say 5 years old? Does the child's age matter? I figure my dd could stay in this carseat until she's probably 7 at least (as she's only 40 inches tall and 35lbs at 5 years old).

Since children grow at different rates, I would assume that the age is simply set forth by the manufacturer as a guideline. Most parents who only have one younger, smaller child have a difficult time picturing how large their child will be years down the road...

Hmmm....I wonder if I can convince DH to let me buy this one....LOL....almost it might work better for a friend of mine and her DD who HATEs her carseat (she curretly rides in teh Regular Triumph)....More padding might help!

I called my local Sears on the 10th (Thursday) and they didn't have any in. All they had for convertibles was an Eddie Bauer and a Safety 1st (according to the lady but of course they never know what they are talking about). I'll go down tomorrow and see if they actually have it.

Totally disappointed on the 30lb weight limit when it is 35lb in the U.S. and we know that manufacturers are allowed to set their own limit. Also disappointed on the 47 pound forward facing limit. Is this because at over the 47 pounds that it doesn't pass the Canadian tests? If so, kind of makes me lose a bit of confidence in the seat.

A big :yeahthat: to everything you said. In fact, I just sent an e-mail to Evenflo yesterday asking about these things exactly. And I mean exactly - I asked why only 30 lb RF when it's up to the manufacutuer to recommend the limit & if it only met US standards at 35 lb RF, but not Cdn standards. I also asked if it was only 47 lb FF for the same reasons. (Are you sure I did not accidentally CC: you on my e-mail? :ROTFLMAO:) I'll post when I hear back from them, if I actually get the detail I'm looking for in my answer that is...

So I went on my hunt today, and went into the Sears in Barrie (ontario), and the poor lady had no idea what I was talking about...in fact she was telling me that if its not in the 2008 baby book they have out...they were not getting it. When I told her that I was talking to people who have picked up from some stores in Ontario...she wanted to know which people...lol...I told her Car seat techs....she said, ok....uhhh lets go check the actual tags of items coming in (the tags that go on the shelves), well it turns out they DO have tags for this seat....just none in stock right now (well I didn't get her to check the back or anything)

I also check out Toys R Us in Barrie as well....and although I'm not 100% sure but they have an order in for 500 Triumphs called Black ICE, so if thats what this new one is called...they are also getting it!

TechnoGranola
01-13-2008, 02:34 PM
My local ToysRUs also told me that the Triumph in the system is Black Ice and Plaid. Then I think he said the Plaid was discontinued (maybe an old Triumph?), anyway, he was a bit confused. He also told me that my location wouldn't be carrying them.

I also called my Sears again today and they still don't have it, "only Safety 1st and Eddie Bauer" according to the lady....

So do you think Black Ice is the cover that the poster earlier in the thread got then?

I was really hoping for sandbox to be available. The cover shown earlier does look nice and soft though. :)

And wowzers about 400 on order. They must be in an upcoming baby event flyer. Anyone happen to find out what price they are in the system? If Sears has them at $150 they'll probably be the same at TRU/BRU, but who knows...

FWIW it doesnt say black ice anywhere on the box or carseat tags - just LX.

If I had to guess though, black ice would describe the colour of the seat I got.

The ETA is the black ICE they are selling.....Babies R Us had them...I litereally watched some guy take it off the shelf and go buy it....I was upset I couldn't play with it first.... :p Ahh well they are getting more in, on the next shipment!

But like everywhere else they only got in 3....lol

I found a pic of the Black Ice on the US K-Mart site. It's different than the one scoop got. It looks more like the LX Raven on the first page of this thread, but the gray is darker.
