View Full Version : Got some Radian Questions

ok have a few questions. I went to go get another Radian tonight but they didn't have the regular radian in the granite I wanted. So I had to go with the premiere. Now I am nervous I made the wrong choice with Cooper's. Please tell me I didn't!

1) the premiere has memory foam. The 65 doesn't. The seats are just as good crash test wise right? The memory foam is more for comfort right?

Now an installation question:
1) The "D" hook that I hook to the seat track.....can I have two on the same seat track? Or should they be on seperate tracks?

2) The "D" hook on the drivers side gets squished by the driver's seat when my husband drives, therefore I am afraid of it cutting it. Hence the reason why I want to know if they can be on the same track but independantly hooked.

3) Can I get a hook installed on the floor for RFing hook?

4) can I get spare "D" hooks so I don't have to keep taking them off? Do they cost.

Thanks. I am scared that I made a bad choice with the coastal now. They are the same height still right?

1. Memory foam is just for comfort... doesn't affect crash tests at all. :)

2. I don't know the answer to this one... my gut instinct is to say it should be fine. The crash forces from a RFing tether are not that great and as long as it's to an object bolted to the floor you should be fine.

3. No, you can not add tether anchors to the floor.

4. Yes, but you'd have to call SKJP to request more. I don't know if they would charge you or not.

5. Both seats have identical slot heights... one is NOT safer than the other, the premier just has more padding.

I'm jealous... my Premiere doesn't have memory foam (I have Super Cool.) I do believe memory foam is only a comfort device.

I asked here once about getting a hook installed for RF tether and was told it's not possible.

To my knowledge they are the same size seat.

HTH - I don't know anything about your other questions!

yes, it is just as good... it was changed inside, though, to work the higher weigh limit, though

I don't know the official answer, but I wouldn't be comfortable doing it.

3) Can I get a hook installed on the floor for RFing hook?

No... it just isn't able to be done.

4) can I get spare "D" hooks so I don't have to keep taking them off? Do they cost.

yes, on the sunshine kids online store at www.skjp.com you can purchase additional ones... don't remember the price.

Thanks. I am scared that I made a bad choice with the coastal now. They are the same height still right?

I think you made a great choice! They are indeed the same height

The 65 and the Premier have the same weight limit in Canada (which is where the OP is located)... 65lbs. ;)

My Granite 65 and SuperCool are identical with the same piece of foam in behind the padding... perhaps it was something they added to all Radian's after the Coastal Blue cover was discontinued. What exactly do you mean by memory foam? I do have foam on mine, but it is not memory foam. My newest DOM is from August '07.

I am not 100% sure Jenn. She said it is like the stuff matresses have. That it is mainly for comfort. The EPS foam is there and so is this foam. This manufactured date is july 2007

I have a July 07 seat as well. It's not memory foam, it's just comfort foam. You should see the same type of foam if you pull the top of the cover back on your coastal blue radian.

Could someone post a photo of this memory foam stuff that is in the seat? I am curious about it. We live in the US and have both Radian 65 and 80 seats and our seats don't have this foam stuff. I'd just like to see a photo if possible. Thanks.

I'll see if I can take one today. It's not memory foam, it's just foam like a couch cushion would be made of.

Is it like the Britax MA foam that is one piece and covers the back and butt area? I wonder why Radians in the US don't have it?

Yes, but it doesn't cover the butt area, just the back.

Wow, forgive my mouth, but that sounds stupid doesn't it? It seems that you'd either want it to cover the whole thing including the butt area too or that the foam would be in the butt area for a little more comfort and not on the back.

I REALLY love these seats!

Just to add that the 18" for top slots is not quite how it is possible with the seat padding. Many of us have measured irl and don't get 18". I got 17.25" for the top slots with the seat padding pressed down as much as I could (similar to a child sitting in the seat, I guess)

maybe I did it different

well our main seats sold here, are 16" and 17" so even close to 18" is cool.
