DH has a regular cab Chevy Silerado pick up truck and I am very apprehensive about the airbag shut off switch and my DS riding in the truck. It hasn't been a problem until now, because I have been out of work. I am going back next week and DS will probably go on errands around town in DH's truck. Does anyone know of any airbag shutoffs that have malfunctioned or any other problems with them. DH is reluctant to get a new truck (how many guys wouldn't jump when their wife said please get a crew cab, honey?) I don't get it, but he has complete faith that it is safe and wants some hard proof otherwise. TIA!

I would trust the kind that is manually shut off (such as inserting the key into a slot) ... but I do not trust the automatic weight sensor shut-offs because mine turned off on me although I weigh twice that which is supposed to keep it on & the dealers couldn't find anything wrong :twocents:

Yes, my dh has a manual shut off airbag and we have had to use it before.

We turn a key.

i agree completely. i would absolutely trust an actual user-controlled switch. there is practically zero chance of that switch malfunctioning in an accident and causing the airbag to erroneously deploy.

but i do not trust the automatic weight sensors that are required now in US-spec passenger cars. the automatic sensors are notoriously unreliable and buggy.
