I was Christmas shopping tonight and of course I had to swing past the car seat section while I was there.
I noticed a new pattern for the Titan so had a closer look and it's the new Titan. I'm not totally sure of my opinion on it yet.
Good news:
- Priced at $129.99 - only $10 more than the old one.
- Really nice plush fabric pad
- 2 sets of loops when adjusting the harness so should fit small babies very well. (Same idea as what Graco does on the snugride, safeseat and comfort sport.)
- There is no max height limit listed for rf'ing - only that there must be 1" of hard shell. (As opposed to most seats listing a 32" max height for rf'ing)
- The manual VERY clearly states not to use ff'ing before 1 AND 20lbs due to increased risk of head and neck injury.
Bad news:
- Max rf weight is still 30lbs.
- Max ff weight is 47lbs
The ff'ing weight limit is the biggest thing I'm puzzled over. At first I wondered if it was a kg to lb conversion thing but the kg's for 47lbs isn't an even number.
And so I'm wondering if Evenflo has decided not to trust the new 65lb weight limit legislation until it's permanent or something?
The old Triumph is off the shelf, no sign of the new triumph and the girl at the store wasn't usually in that department and couldn't figure out how to check what was on order or expected in to the store. I'm guessing since the new Titan is there though, that the Advance isn't far behind.
Oh, the DOM on the Titan there was Nov 30/07. And they were already sold out of the stock they'd just received.
So overall I'm happy, I'm just disappointed about the weight limits.
(And now I sit back and somewhat impatiently wait for the triumph advance to show up. )

(Uuugghhh, I just lost my reply - let me try this again...)
Yay for the RFing height limit! I wonder if TC changed their rules, and now a company only has to state 1" of hard shell. That would be great! I am still annoyed by the fact that the RFing weight limit is capped at 30lbs - frustrating and ridiculous.
I am not too surprised about the FFing limit. From what I understand, the Titan FFing limit is 50lbs in the US. The Evenflo combination seats are rated to 47lbs in Canada. I am not familiar with all the logistics of crash testing, but maybe they just kept their old crash testing stuff, and made the limit 47lbs instead of 50lbs.
Does the Titan look the same? What is the height of the top harness slots? Yes, it will be interesting when the Triumph DLX enters the market. What will the FFing limit be? Will it be competition for the AOE (insert dramatic music here)? Thanks for taking the time to take a peak. Our nearest BRU is 300km away. I never have a chance to scope out seats!

I believe it was this pattern:
http://trus.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-3722028dt.jpg
It's a nice change in look from the old boring tan.
I think when the Advance comes in it'll be huge competition for the 3in1's - harness weight limit higher than them, harness slots higher, and less expensive.
I didn't have a tape measure with me to measure the slots or anything. The top of the seatback definitely seems higher to me than the old one, but without my ds to sit in it it's hard to tell for sure.
Only the top 2 slots can be used ff'ing, and the uppermost slot can't be used rf'ing. (It has 4 slots total.)
And that dumb 30lb rf'ing weight limit thing isn't actually part of our standards. I'm not sure of the exact history, but there's nothing in the CMVSS 213 standards preventing manufacturers from rating their seats to a higher weight limit rf'ing. It's something that irriates the heck out of me. Unfortunately I haven't a clue of where to even start getting answers or having manufacturers raise the rf'ing weight limits.
eta: I'm volunteering at a seat check tomorrow and I'm hoping to get to see one in action. LOL. Seeing as they're flying off the shelves according to the BRU employee, maybe I'll be in luck.

Quick post: I'm heading out to my BRU today and will take my camera and tape measure :) I am wondering about the top harness slots measurement, regardless whether it's 47, 50 or 65 lbs, kwim?
Great to see another option though.

I'm wondering if they didn't want to have a convertable with a higher weight limit then there 5pt harness/booster combo seats or if to keep things simple have all their seats have a max weigh limit of 47lbs
I saw it on sears.ca yesterday.

:yeahthat:
I'm thinking it's 47lbs for marketing. It would be kind of silly to have a convertible with a higher weight limit than their combination seats.

I saw it on sears.ca yesterday. The Titan listed there today has a forward facing limit of 40 lbs, is that the old one?

Yes, that's the old one, I was looking on Sears' site last night too & didn't see it.
You guys may be right about not wanting a convertible to have a higher limit than their combo seats or doing it to keep things simple. All their phone reps would only have to know 47lbs for ff'ing weight limits then.
Hipmaman - I'm looking forward to seeing what you find at your BRU. Maybe you'll get to see the new Advance too.

I think Julie was referring to the new Sears catalogue... she's got the new 2008 with the new Titan in it. We can forgive her though... she's got that preggo brain. ;)

Yep, Jen is right it was the new 2008 baby book sears catalogue. I was asking her about a SS1 listed and we couldn't find the pattern name on either Graco sites or the Sears site.
As far as getting one, i'm not sure it just came as part of a package at my pre-natal check up yesterday :D

Really? I had no idea?!:confused::mad:
Hmmm, looks like I have to run out and pick up the new Sears catalogue to check out the seats they hope to have in stock. Yes, I checked the BRU and Sears websites last night. They still have the old Titan listed.

I had looked earlier today and did not see the Titan Deluxe, and now I know why....they put it under INFANT car seats instead of convertible car seats!
And what's the difference between the new Titan and Triumph Advance?

The titan deluxe is identical in slot height and shell height to the old Titan, it just has a higher ff'ing weight limit.
The triumph advance is a completely new seat with infinite adjust front harness, 17" top height, and knobs on the sides to tighten it. It's similar to the old triumph in shape and having the knobs, but other than that, it's totally different.
The Sears site is incorrect about the rf'ing weight limit though - the limit in Canada is only 30lbs. I looked at the seat and the manual myself, so I can say that for certain.

Forgot that I haven't post my findings (got sidetracked with our discussion about it during the Chat)...
The old Titan and the new one are pretty much identical. The only obvious difference that I could see without stripping the seats down was the insert cushions. The insert on the new seat does not have the lip (where it sits at the back) while the old insert have a lip of about 3-4"
I measured top harness slots on both (w/o the insert cushion and pushing down one the carseat padding) and got 14" on both.

And ladies, you must have missed the Quinny® Maxi-Cosi® Mico Infant Seat for a whopping $199 buck-a-roos. http://www.sears.ca/gp/product/B0010YZ38Y/sr=1-1/qid=1199343916/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&searsBrand=core&mqnodeid=16342051
Someone had said that she tried to order and it went all the way. So maybe it is truely here and instead of just Sears catalogue went to print months ahead of time and the seat might not be here at all. One way to find out... I'll post back when I get some sort of communication with TC on this.

Oh, I missed that one! The only problem I have with it is it is still a part of Dorel Juvenile Group just a different name
The person who ordered it, did they get it? I can order if anyone would like.

(silly because we originally had the Buzz for 2 years before the U.S. ever got it). The availability of this car seat should make the Buzz a better seller now.

 I found pulling ds's shirt up on his neck so that it was between the straps helped a ton. We made a 10hr drive over 2 days when ds was in the SS1 still and he was ok. I know even just buckling him in though, that if I didn't arrange his shirt he'd immediately get red marks because he had a chubby rolly neck when we first bought the seat.

I was so sad when I looked at her little neck! Since about September she's always been in the seat with either a bunny hug (hoody) or a fleece suit, so always had something covering her neck. We didn't want her to get too hot on the highway, so we kept her in just a t-shirt. :( I didn't really notice red marks over the summer, maybe just because she was smaller?

I haven't really seen any one use the Tiatan (old or new) but it looks like a small seat to me I mean the seat depth...maybe it's just the pics???
how much of a diffrence is there between the titan and the generations which my dd is currently in???
hipmaman
01-06-2008, 10:08 PM
Titan is small. The top slots were measured at about 14.5" while the Generations' top slots should be about 16.5". The Generations is a carseat/booster combo so understandably needs to have taller seatback and higher top harness slots while the Titan is a convertible seat. Evenflo convertible seat tends to run short/small, imo.
