View Full Version : Nothing can be simple! Installation question

I've never installed a seat FF so don't throw stupidity stones  By the way, the FPSVD is installed, the EB is NOT installed, it is just buckled.

Why cant things just be simple?! Here's the deal. We are going to a festival of lights (it is several miles, and they don't allow walking). I was planning to put him in his RF seat for the ride to and from, and I though Oh I'll just toss that old EB 3 in 1 in an outboard position and switch him FF so he can see better. Yay I'm so smart! Oh but wait, the dern armrests make the seat wider that a house. So my point is, the whole reason for installing this seat is to drive 10mph through a light show. He will be RF the rest of the time.

So my question, which is the lesser of two evils given the situation? The air underneath the seat (can I put anything under there? Probably not huh.) Or having both seats pushed to the other side of the vehicle (I probably need to adjust the recline on the EB seat, I think it is on the middle setting)

I would rather not install both outboard because I feel like he is safer in the center, and the FF is only for a few minutes for the light show. The EB would have to be installed first because of the locking clip. And the problem is worse on the other side of the FPSVD where I was originally going to put it...the door won't even close.

When installing seats next to each other you want to be sure you have them independently correct. You do not want one relying on the other for tightness or positioning. According to your photos it does not appear that they are independent.

At his age and size I would be fine turning him FFing in the FPSVD for the evening.

I would just turn him around forward-facing for your short car ride there and back. He has well surpassed the age of 2 years old, and will be VERY save forward-facing with a correct install and top tether used ;)

Well I hadn't really thought about it, but if I am as proficient installing the FPSVD FF as I am RF I could just switch it. It literally takes me like two minutes to install it RF. My husband thinks I'm being nuerotic and ridiculous. Which I probably am. It is a good hour each way on the interstate with a bunch of loonies who can't drive. I would rather keep him RF for the trip. Another minor concern I have is that there is an outside possibility of car sickness, which I don't want to deal with... I'd rather our first FF trips be quick ones so I can make sure he won't get sick being in the middle.

We were run off the road by a tractor trailer the second time we left the house with him when he was a newborn! I disovled into tears! It was right in what we in NC call "Death Valley" in Greensboro, because 4 or 5 interstates and major roads all pour in together within a few miles. Some minor, some major, there are pretty much wrecks there every day!

Okay so thanks, I guess I have a solution, I don't like that EB seat anyway :) Bless you people who have to do a three across, I wouldn't even know where to start!!!

It's probably 10 times easier to install FF than RF.... (well, with a lapbelt, maybe only 5 times easier...)

If you really want him RF for the ride there, can't you just pull over at a gas station once you get close, and switch the seat to FF then? Then switch it back to RF for the ride home?
