View Full Version : A question for Maclaren Volo owners ?

I sold my very used Triumph and I am missing it something fierce...
My kids never sleep in the stroller so I don't want to pay $41 extra for recline we never used.
So my questions are:
-Does the mesh of the seat stretch over time?
-Does white hood get nasty pretty fast (were the wheels go when it folds?
-Do you wish you would have gotten a triumph instead of the volo?
ETA:
I can get a volo with accessory pack for $119
Triumph $160
Quest $165
I will just go ahead and get a quest if I don't get a volo.

Yes the White hood gets dirty immediately. Everytime you fold it the wheels hit the hood :( I had a hard time selling my VOLO, because the hood was dirty ALL over, and I had only used it a few times. Everything I folded it I would have to clean it again LOL! But other than that I really liked it.
Why not check out the Uppa Baby G-Lite. http://www.uppababy.com/products/product.php?id=8 It's actually lighter, and includes a fabric insert that you can take out(something I wish the volo had). It is more plush and cushier than the Volo. I was pretty impressed. It feels and pushes just like a Maclaren. The fold is different (which I like). Of course, you can never go wrong with a Volo though :)

I have an orange Volo, and the hood does get dirty. I bought some of the inexpensive shower caps to put on the wheels when I folded it, and it helped, but inevitably I would forget and it would be dirty again. It cleans up pretty well, although it never seems to come completely clean.
As far as the mesh stretching, I have never known anyone to say it does, but I know the longer we have had it the more difficulty my son has had getting out of it, so I suspect it may have. Of course, he weighs more too now, so that could have something to do with it. DS(almost 5) and I both prefer the Techno though, so we use it most of the times when we have need of a stroller, mostly at the theme parks.

I've owned at least 15 Volos! I upgrade them every year, and change colours at random. It's by far my favourite stroller.
I've never had the mesh stretch. It's a very well designed, supportive mesh. Very solid. It's also great for the pool.
As you already know from reading the responses here--YES the hoods get nasty! I had a black hood on my last Volo for this reason, and it sold for more than my used-10-times almost new Volo because the hood looked clean. The hoods get nasty, and then you can't clean them because it's inevitable that you'll pick up some grease on the tires you're folding up against the hood!
I prefer the Volo to the Triumph. The seat space is actually larger, because of the sling-design to the seat versus the set fabric space of the Triumph. They're both the same frame, but the Triumph has the fabric and the recline. I find that my kids are more comfortable in the Volo versus the Triumph, even when they sleep. It's also more comfortable for larger/older kids to sit in.
Only get the accessory pack if you need the travel bag or the seat liner (I've never used my seat liners!) since most of the new Volos (2007) have a rain cover included--just look in the description, since a few places do sell "value" versions without it.. (Toys R Us Canada, for example; I believe one of the colours at Target may also be stripped-down, or at least it was...) If you do get the accessory pack, you may end up with a duplicate rain cover you can throw up on eBay to recover some costs, since owners of older Volos really want them!
Usually at the end of the year/beginning of the next year, you can get Maclarens at a seriously discounted amount because their models come out yearly around this time. AND Maclaren is one of the few high-end gear manufacturers that allows the use of coupons codes for their products--so keep an eye out, especially this time of year!

Uggg, dirty hood!
One reason I had a hard time selling my Triumph (light blue hood) and I desperatly don't want to have to deal with that again.
Melissa, I will look at those.

Scratch the Uppababy, it only goes up to 40 lbs and J is already 37 lbs.

Just echoing Quasseee...though for her 15 I've had 1 and it's held up beautifully since 2002 (mine was even pre-accessories...i bought the extra kit with a black hood from 2004 and never use it or the seat pad...the silver cross micro kit works well, it's got a taller rounder hood, too)

So jools,
would you:
a) get a volo
OR
b) get a baby jogger city series single (with plans of getting the jump seat one day)

We bought ours this summer for our 4 YO and love it. We go to a lot of zoos and festivals and still need one at times. I got it new on eBay for $70 I think.

-Does the mesh of the seat stretch over time?
Ours hasn't, but it hasn't been used a ton.
-Does white hood get nasty pretty fast (were the wheels go when it folds?
Ours is silver and still clean.
-Do you wish you would have gotten a triumph instead of the volo?
Nope!

I believe only the Elite City Series will have the optional jumpseat. Pretty sure...

Please stop doing that to me!
I am comparing a $125 Umbrella to a $399 Jogging Stroller...
There is no answer to that one right?

Oy...well....the Baby Jogger does have a 75lb weight limit for the rider. So that could be something that would last you a long time. Not to mention the super high seatbacks. I think it just comes down to how much you want to spend. They are both awesome strollers. After owning air tires, it's hard to go back LOL!

What about a 2006 Volo? Don't some styles have darker hoods? Some baby stores are selling 2006 models for less than the 2007! I'm not sure what the differences are though except color?

I have a 2006 volo- orange. The hood is silvery white and gets a bit dirty. I haven't tried to clean it yet since it doesn't bother me.
The 2006 I have has different fabric than the 2007. THe posts near the legs poked through and I ended up having to get a new seat. Thankfully, it is still under warranty and I actually got a new seat in less than 2 days, once I got pictures to maclaren. THe 2007 fabric looks a bit sturdier.
I love this stroller! It is so lightweight and both Dillon, 4 and 42 pounds and Gilbey, 1 and 25 pounds, fit well. It is very supportive for both of them and the back is high enough for Dillon to rest his head pretty comfortably.

I don't have a Volo, but have a Techno and Ryder and I always put a plastic garbage bag, the 13 gal size, OVER the hood, top of the stroller seat, and handles when I fold my strollers, so the wheels do not touch the stroller. I don't worry as much about the Techno, as it is black, but the Ryder has offwhite at the top of the seatback.

I bought a Carbon Volo (the black one) last spring. honestly, it still looks brand new, but I have to admit I've never even attached the hood. I don't often go walking with it, it's mainly a mall/shopping stroller. I use my jogger outdoors unless we're going to be somewhere with pavement. (Like if we go down to Carytown, which is a very urban, walking-friendly shopping area about 30 minutes from here. The jogger would just be too big there.)

I also have the orange one and yes, the hood gets dirty and I've never been able to get it completely out. I really don't care that much since the hood is usually folded back. I've had kids of all weights and sizes in it and the mesh has never streched. I love it, dirty hood and all.

I have a magenta one...it's stored in it's box in the attic waiting for Reigan to stop being a brat about riding in it...
I've got the turquoise one, 2007 model I think.
The hood on mine has some scuffs on it, but that's mainly from dragging it Disney World and back. We keep the hood off of it a lot of the time, though, so that's probably why it's in decent condition. Like Skater, ours is mainly and indoors/mall stroller.
Mesh seat has never stretched or been a problem. We bought the accessory pack so in the winter I keep the seat pad on for warmth. But DD has no issue sitting on the mesh in the summer, either.
I love that stroller. It's my absolute fav!

Thanks everyone!!
This (http://www.babyuniverse.com/Triumph-Stroller-2007--Charcoal/PID/4784303/ctid/17/INstock/Y/D/) is what I ended up going with.

That definitely solves the dirty hood problem, doesn't it?! $140 is a great price, and $125 with their $15 off coupon right now is even better. I'm sure you'll love it!
