Sooo, we have our new Regent installed in DH's Honda Element. I didn't realize until the other day, that the recline bar isn't on it. I asked him why, and he said because it just went thru the "crack" in the seat to the back, and stuck out the back, and didn't do anything .

What should we do? I know its "required" by the manual, but is it really doing anything here, where its just sticking out the back of the seat?

DS is holding at 39-40 lbs, so its installed with LATCH.

It reduces head excursion in a crash. To get an idea how it would "help" even if it's just stuck through the crash, set the Regent on the floor and jerk the seat forward, like it would move in a crash. Then put the recline bar in, and step on the recline bar (gently!) and try jerking the seat forward again - it won't go without knocking your foot off. That's why the recline bar is required, even if it doesn't seem to do much for the installation.
