We have a 2007 Honda CRV and I really enjoy it. Lately I've become very worried about the safety of the cargo space in a collision. I carry a fairly large stroller back there and want to find the best way to contain it. The dealership suggested a pet barrier since they didn't think the net would be big enough. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

a net wouldn't hold a stroller in a major impact. cargo tie-down straps would, but then again the cargo anchors holding the straps may not. a pet barrier would work, but only if it were bolted to the car (or attached via the tether anchors), not just tension-fit or suction cupped like many are.

I vote for the tying down. It takes a lot less strength to keep an object from moving then it does to stop it when it is moving. What do you have for tie downs?

Thanks for the ideas. I'm not sure what we have for tie downs. I believe there are anchors to attach to. What should I buy for tie downs? Sorry I am so clueless. I'm learning as I go. Thanks again!

You should have 4 anchors in the cargo area. Do not use bungie cords because they carry their own risks. A ratcheting tie-down would work. Take a trip to your nearest hardware store and take a look. . there are all kinds ;)

do a search for Milford Barriers. A CPS I know told me about them. They are safely installed with anchors and developed in Australia which seems to be on the forefront of cargo barrier safety. Maybe Honda in Australia will have a barrier?

Make sure you read your vehicle owner's manual about carseats and pet barriers. My Subaru does not allow tethers to be routed through them and the CRV has the same type of ceiling mounted tether anchors.

I don't remember a mention of pet barriers in the car manual, but then I wasn't specifically looking for it. It could certainly be prohibited.

However, if it is she can always put the carseat outboard. In the 07's, there's only one ceiling tether and it's for the center position. The outboard positions have the tether behind the seat. (Actually I just realized my siggie shows this. . her seat is tethered you just can't see it).

Too bad it didn't have 3 rows, because then you could just recline the third row.

Your seat is a 60/40 split, maybe you could recline the 60 part if noone is sitting there?

Thanks to everyone for such great ideas. I'll let you know what I come up with. Wish I'd thought of all this when I bought my vehicle, but I feel that it still is a very safe vehicle. I just have to work out the details as they arise.
