Has anyone use a baby hammock? What did you think?

The Amby is way over priced (IMNSHO, for a bed that can only be used 9-12 mo), but I found the La Siesta (http://www.lasiesta.com/main.htm) Yayita baby hammock (http://www.novanatural.com/s.nl/it.A/id.1754/.f), and it's only $99. You have to hang it from the ceiling, unlike the Amby (http://www.ambybaby.com/), but that's the only down side I see.

I think they are so cool! I wish I had known about them before I bought my (useless) arm's reach cosleeper. DS2 really needed movement at night to stay asleep for the first few months I I think a hammock would have been great for him.
A few people in my due date club on MDC had them. They had ones like this http://cgi.ebay.com/Natural-HandMade-Swing-Baby-Cradle-Hammock-Crib-Cribs_W0QQitemZ230196029253QQihZ013QQcategoryZ2042 3QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
That's a completed listing, and some of the pics are gone, but you get the idea. It's a little more structured.
I'm so planning on getting one for the next babe.

Oh and I think hanging it from the ceiling isn't necessisarily a downside. You could have multiple hanging spots in your house (I'm picturing one right behind our couch) & in relative's houses & it becomes really portible.

I've always had concrete under facing for ceilings, so hanging wouldn't work for our situation.
But honestly, if I had to do it over again, I probably would go for the Amby. By the time money was spent to deal with a triple floor house household -- swing, bouncer, bassinet, playyard, co-sleeper bolster, various slings, and lord knows what else, the purchase price of that would have been nominal and the ability to sleep, priceless! My aching back might have been relieved from that first 3-4 months of her sleeping upon me. :o

Even without the 'enhanced' springs (http://www.ambybaby.com/age-weight-limits.php), it would have lasted dd until at least 15 months since she didn't have any interest in sitting up in her bed on her own. But that's just me :shrug-shoulders:

We have a ranch style house, so multiple floors isn't an issue. :)

I had a Happy Hang-Up for baby #2. It was wonderful, but it was a big downside that it had to hang from the ceiling. We eventually moved our dining table into the living room for several months so we could eat one-handed while gently bouncing the baby... We thought, "Oh, hey, we'll put hooks in lots of rooms and just move it around." Um, no. My dh was always at work, my arms were always full of baby (when she wasn't in the hammock), and the ceiling is not exactly an easy reach..

So, in anticipation of baby #3, I've splurged on an Amby. Honestly the hammock part doesn't look as cozy as the happy hang-up was, but the portability is just too tempting.

Oh, and that one with the buckles creeps me out. Dunno why, I guess because the HH didn't have buckles.

You can always DIY. DD1 was so enamored with dd2's hammock that we made her a similar swing. Tye each end of a baby wrap to sling rings. Anchor an eye bolt into a ceiling beam, use a caribiner to attach a trolling spring, use another caribiner to attach to the sling rings. Voila. Eventually that replaced the Happy Hangup all together. But our new ceilings are rediculously flakey, so we don't want to screw anything into them (yet another reason for an Amby).

I have an amby baby hammock, got it used on ebay for my son. He loved it. BUT it was hard to get him in and out gracefully, his arms or something would always catch. My dh blames the hammock on el not sleeping well in a bed later on, but I think that's just elliot. That said, we did not use the amby with erin. I'm kind of rethinking that, though- she might have some reflux stuff going on and the hammock would help with that, not laying her flat.

My siter had an Amby and she loved it! She took it with her to friends house as well as using it at home.

I had a (free!) hand-me-down Amby for a brief time that we LOVED :) No thoughts on hanging from the ceiling....

Well, I got the La Siesta for Christmas yesterday, so I'll post a review soon, I think. I haven't even hung it yet. :)

So what do you think of your hammock? I've had the Amby "in use" for 5 weeks now but have rarely used it, and the few times I did, the baby wasn't happy.

I'm hoping to get a chance to post a more thorough review soon (this week is horribly busy for me), but preliminarily, I will say that the hammock we got is probably *not* good for a baby with reflux. It curves the baby's body, squishing his/her tummy.

I know I'm late with my opinion, but I LOVED our Amby. ODD used it for 9 months, and YDD nappd on it for 15 months.
