This is from someone on my cafemoms board.. can someone answer this for her?
I told her to try a thin towell. Anyone else have advice?

We just recently bought an SUV, and it has leather seats. My daughters car seat <a convertible seat not infant> slips a little bit on the leather, and even a ltitle bit makes me very nervous.

I was wondering what I could use to put under her seat to keep it from moving, and also help protect the seat?

I remember years ago when my son was in a seat like this, they put something under his seat at a safety check and I'm pretty positive it was the rubber shelf liner. So I bought some last night at walmart, but haven't tried to put it under the seat yet.
Is this stuff safe to use? And would it mess up our leather seats? I wouldn't think so, but wanted to ask cause I don't want the seats ruined.

Thanks for any help :)

In the new curriculum they are still teaching the rubber shelf liner...but in the summer it can melt a bit and adhere to the leather from what I've heard/read.

using 1 layer of thin towel is ok as well. But as long as it's moving less than 1 inch at the belt path she's ok.

The rubber shelf liner is fine for winter and when it is cool. If she lives in a place like AZ it will melt to her seat. A thin towel will help with protecing the seat, but probably won't help with the moving.

If she doesn't have a secure install in her seat, she should NOT be putting anything down; she needs to get to a tech to make the install secure. All putting something down will do is make it FEEL like it's in tightly when it isn't.

including shelf liner. ;)

Exactly. At Lifesavers this year they told us to no longer recommend shelf liner because it gives a falsely secure installation.

although i'm not a tech, i've been suspicious of the use of shelf liner all along, for exactly that reason. it just seemed to contradict the central argument for not using a rubber mat, regardless of whether it had been "field-approved" before this recent update. glad to see my thoughts and suspicions have been validated ;).

I think I still have the original roll they gave me in my training class in 5/05. LOL I never use it.
