I vaguely remember discussing this once before breifly within another thread, but I'd like to touch on it again :)

I've put my Freestar stored in the barn & canceled the insurance (because I just can't afford it) -- will be getting the 1997 Honda Civic HX from Leila's "stepdaddy" as soon as he buys himself a new car...

Either the aribag warning labels or the manual say to get the airbags inspected after 10 years: what are the specific reasons for this & just how do they inspect them?

I didn't think there was any way to inspect airbags after their installed, at east not without activating them

There is not a way to inspect them. My only guess id maybe they thought they would be able to inspect them at the time the vehicle came out. :twocents: DH has had airbags deploy while putting themas well as removing them. He says it is very painful. Call the Manufacturer and see what they say.

Will do, but hoped to be prepared to have a REAL conversation with them rather than just like, Oh ... uh ... OK :p Thanks Lisa!

Hm, I'd be interested in knowing more about this too. We have a 1994 Corolla that has the same warning, and I still haven't gotten around to bringing it to the dealership. I don't see what they could do, but then I don't want to find out the hard way that they're not working properly...

i highly doubt they can do anything to inspect them. the car's computer software automatically goes through a self-diagnostic routine every time the car is started. if there is a problem detected, the airbag light illuminates while the car is running, indicating a malfunction.
