My BIL has a 98 Plymouth Voyager. Does anyone know what type of seatbelts these have in the rear captain seats?
They use a locking clip and they put it on the other side of the car seat (not at the buckle). They are not using it right and I am curious if they even need it.
I am not there but we are flying up there Christmas Eve so Id like to help them if I can with this.

Plymouth = Dodge, so my GUESS would be locking latchplates.

A 98 anything will not need a locking clip. Beyond that, I don't know if they are ALRs, switchables, or have locking latchplates, sorry :(

I can guarantee that this vehicle has lightweight locking latchplates. It probably has Gen3 buckles too but that's a whole 'nother story and nothing you can do about that anyway.
There is a good chance that the lightweight locking latchplates (aka "cinching" latchplates) don't actually cinch the belt the way they are supposed to. This was a common problem in these vehicles during this time period.
The latchplate has a moveable part http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYoCqslXXnA which is supposed to hold the seatbelt tightly in place when a CR is installed. There are no switchable retractors in seating positions that have this type of latchplate. If, when you tug on the seat from side to side, you discover that it just wiggles loose - tighten it back up again and flip the latchplate. That should solve the problem. Using a locking clip (the correct way) will also fix the problem but flipping the latchplate is easier.
HTH and have a safe trip!

Kecia, that's intersting that they tend to slip. I've never found that to be a problem in my Jeep. ('96 Cherokee).

We had a '95 Grand Cherokee way back when (I think it was a '95 anyway) and those LLL held fine too. But those Caravans and Voyagers were notorious for slipping latchplates.

I've never had a problem with any slipping either.
My friend has a '99 Voyageur. I do find that you *often* need to twist the buckle stalk down to get the latchplate to lay completely straight (which is how the seatbelt locks)... if you don't do that, the majority of the time it will loosen, but it's because it's not a straight path it's curved over the belt path and that will always loosen.
That vehicle definitely has lightweight locking latchplates though. :)
