Dh's car needed to go through inspection for the city today. He owns his own business, and doesn't have much spare time, so I offered to take it for him. I had my 3rd with me--Rfing in a Blvd.

So it's finally my turn...And the man does a double-take when he sees the backseat, and says, "Ummm...that carseat....You know that's not right, don't you?? His legs shouldn't be like that."

So I got to go into a brief explanation about the benefits of rear-facing and child safety. He was absolutely in awe, and called some of the other employees over to see it. He had me get out of the car, and show him how it was installed, etc (I'm sure the people behind me were freaking out!!). He said he knows that his young daughter's children are not riding correctly, that the seats aren't in right, that the kids sometimes ride in the front seat, etc. I told him about how to find a tech in his area, and about a seat check event that I'll be working this weekend, and he seemed really relieved and excited. He was so nice after I explained everything to him that I got over being ticked off about a guy who checks emissions giving me advice about proper carseat usage. At least now maybe he won't make the same mistake with other parents :D!

Every little bit of training and correct usage (by both techs and nontechs) helps out in getting the word out to those who are not familiar. He now knows more then before and will hopefully spread the word to others and get his daughter's seat correct. I hope you see him at the seat check event this weekend.

Yeah, he'll probably never see another RFing toddler in our area. Besides the few family members that I've convinced, I don't think I've ever seen another child in my area Rfing over 12 months :(.

And yes, the car passed. It's only a year old though, so I would've been more surprised if it didn't. We just have to go every year to be able to regisiter our vehicles in the city. What fun!!

Yeah, I sure hope he's there--and that his teenage daughter who is putting her children in the front seat is there too!! Sounds like he was going to try to get there, so that would be great--Especially if I was the one who got to work with them!! :)

See, but then it wouldn't have been funny to me...Then I would've just been MAD!! Lucky for him, he turned out to be a nice guy. I can be a bit fiesty when someone gets on my bad side :D.

Do you have to do both safety and emissions every year? Newer vehicles are only every other year in my state, but I think starting this year we have to have it inspected every year. :( Although, next year is only emissions; annual safety doesn't kick in until the car is 8 years old.

Yes, all these things have to be checked once a year. Even when you buy a brand new vehicle, the first thing you have to do is go get it inspected.

Emissions
Emergency Brakes
Headlights
Side Glass
Windshield
Windshield Wipers
Tail Lights
Brake Lights
Turn Signals
Exhaust System
Rearview Mirrors
Tail light lens

same for our state. brand new cars have to have an inspection sticker.

in addition to what mom to a few listed, we also check:

tire tread depth and tire pressure
brake pad thickness
horn
reverse lights
loose steering/suspension parts
signs of tampering with the VIN or emissions

we also do every other year emissions for newer cars, and then every year for older cars. but the safety inspection is every year.

Congratulations! You win a locking clip! Ding ding ding!

LOL.

Yeah, I guess that is the etymology of dink, isn't it, but I was using it as SPB suggests.

It's a shame, I have so many more colorful descriptors, but here I am, biting my tongue. Or my fingers. ;)

If the guy was a whale's penis, then, yes, a dink is like a dork.
