OK, after much agonizing between the marathon and the boulevard I finally decided to buy the boulevard. But then I read a few posts about the crotch strap on the bv being very short and seriously cramping/pinching kids as they get older.

Is this really an issue? Does the Marathon have the same problem?

I beleive they both have the same crotch straps, I haven't had any issues with my nieces in the boulevard but it might be different for a boy

MOST people's issues with short crotch straps are when RFing they install the seatbelt over the strap so it cuts it off.

I have a son in a Marathon and there's plenty of room.

The crotch strap on the Blvd is fairly short compared to some seats (like the Evenflo Triumph we used to have), but I don't feel comfortable (even if the "experts" say its ok) having the buckle up in the middle of my child's belly. I really prefer the buckle to be low--It makes more sense to me for safety reasons.

I have two boys in Blvd's right now--One RF and one FF--and they are both fine as far as comfort. The only times our 4.5 yr old has been uncomfortable were when he happened to have an erection in the car...and I don't really know of a carseat that would help that problem since it also has to do with how his underwear/pants were wadded-up around him when it happened. Anyway, 99.9% of the time, they are both perfectly comfortable. Just give yourself a little while to get used to it, and I think you'll like it.

My oldest (6yrs old) never complained about her MA being uncomfortable in her crotch area. She just came out of a MA back in June.

The MA and BLVD crotch strap is shorter than some other HW convertibles. It shouldn't be a problem if you are fastening the crotch buckle before the chest clip. You may also need to loosen and retighten the harness each time- which you should probably be doing no matter which seat you choose.
